Mitsuboshi Kevlar Belt

The OEM belt slaps the top and bottom metal portion of the CVT housing.
I have not had any belt slap with the Mitsuboshi Kevlar Belt.

But when asked about quantifying how to compare or quantify better than OEM belt, they could not provide any details or specifics.

The only concrete and discernible difference is the belt slap .... it could be a better/stronger belt but there is no proof to compare from either side.

Kevlar belts ARE stronger than steel belts, assuming the engineering quality is there.

I'd be surprised if the stock belt isn't already Kevlar, though. That seems like a no-brainer these days. But if the "slap" goes away the aftermarket belt must be less prone to stretching.

I do know that when I first bought my 1999 Volkswagen diesel the cam drive belt had a 40,000 mile life expectancy, and field experience among the less mechanically inclined indicated that you could expect failure and engine destruction in less than 50,000 miles. A better belt, either with Kevlar or with MORE Kevlar (we never figured out the exact difference) was developed that raised the change interval to 80,000 miles. Kevlar is the real deal.

While the subject is open, I've been told that the belt change is so simple and that there is a video on youtube. The only video that I've seen is of a guy squeezing the drum and popping in a spacer on the variator to replace the belt. Took him seconds to do.

I had belt slap on the original OEM belt when it was relatively new (before stretching), which disappeared after enough miles.

I have not had any belt slap on the Mitsuboshi Kevlar Belt. I wonder if the Mitsuboshi is either shorter and/or tighter than the OEM belt.

Someone did say they changed the belt without removing the nut.

I thought it was beneficial to open the variator check and clean the rollers and clean the variator ramps when I changed the belt.
