| I am in need of suggestions for getting a new key made for fsc600 Silverwing.
Tried locksmiths but said a keycode is needed.
Spoke with Honda and they don't maintain records for Silverwings.
Has anyone had this challenge before trying to avoid having to replace the ignition completely.
Any suggestions is appreciated
Chuck

| Ilco, x225, HD109. Made in USA. Is the blank that I have for my spare key. I hope this help. Or I’m lost on how to get a key code to cut a key without a blank. Maybe call some locksmiths and see if they can help. Hopefully they may ride too and have their ways to do it. |

| Not sure what to add. When I first bought my SW I asked the Honda dealer if a replacement key could be obtained if I ever lost mine, and they said yes.
I guess the only other option is doing a search on eBay for a switch with keys. It's not a difficult job to change it. |

| Seems the entire front has to come off to get to the ignition switch. If I have do this I been told the key code is on the side of ignition unit. I can the have locksmith cut by the code. I hear it's about 2 hour job to disassemble. Has anyone done this before. |

| Getting to the ignition switch is tricky but possible.
It involves removing the handlebar plastic covers and then the handlebars. It's an idea to 'suspend' the handlebars using rope or strap to a garage ceiling. That way you don't need to detach any of the cables and pipes etc. Leave them hovering just enough to get better access. This gives you access to the handlebar mounts and ignition switch. The keyhole is attached to a plate which also has the key recognizer on it. The entire ignition switch assembly can be lifted away once the wiring plugs are disconnected.
You need to be careful not to allow any the brake pipes and wiring to become crossed or entangled. It is tricky but possible. I went through it when I changed my steering stem bearings. I'm talking from memory but I hope this gives you an idea. |

| Don't forget the North American spec FSC Silver Wing isn't exactly the same as the UK and European spec FJS Silver Wing. The FJS had a chipped ignition key for the Honda H.I.S.S., the Honda. Ignition. Security. System. which is an immobiliser.
Whether it was on the early years FJS Silver Wings I've no idea, my 2010 model had it as OE. Even now the memories are fading. |

| "Tried locksmiths but said a keycode is needed." there's that, but he is also a lazy locksmith, "most" Honda motorcycle locks have the key code stamped on them. Removing the ignition lock assy. on the SW600 is relatively easy task for any mechanic or avid DIYer, fairing removal is not necessary IMO, basically you have to remove/support handlebars, wiring, cables, etc., out of the way, then remove handlebar holder post assy. where the ignition switch is mounted. See Service Manual 14-18 to 14-21, then you can remove the switch tamper proof screws, etc., if needed. BTW, if you removed the RH coolant access compartment you can see a lot more. this IPC shows the components ... https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053f280f870021c54be6a56/handlebar-handle-cover BTW, the OP is in the US, no chipped key, etc. 2nd BTW, Wish I was a little closer than 3hrs away, good luck. |

| Chuck, I went to a locksmith in town cause I needed a spare for a bike and he cut another a key blank and made it work. He didn't need any key code unless it's European model. |

I guess the only other option is doing a search on eBay for a switch with keys. It's not a difficult job to change it. The hell it isn't. I lost my only key and had to change the ignition switch. It was harder than any other scooter I've ever changed. You have to take off so much to get to those magic bolts that need to be drilled out in a way that you can get a drill on them. And you have to drill out the gas cap, which adds to the adventure. Then you have to put the bike back together again. I ended up buying blanks and made four spare keys, because it was so much fun. |
