John is right!  Perhaps Lloyd had a miss type.

I always thought the Honda Helix and the Big Ruckus runs the same size rear wheel because they share so many things, but I was wrong.

Helix:  10 inch rim.

Big Ruckus:  12 inch rim.    130/70/12

This tire (130/70/12)  is looking like a car tire.

It is in my signature, but I feel worthy of mentioning here:

I do knot know how this confusion started, The car tire I am running on my Big Ruckus is a 145-70-12 Summit Radial T speed rated tire. Sorry for the confusion. The 13" Tires I spoke about are for use on Silverwing 13" Rims.

Are those tires MC for motorcycle use? or for car use? There is rim difference and tire bead construction difference.

Chinese Tires from Carshoez on E Bay. I have installed several Summit rear tires over the last year and have been surprised at how round these tires are. Very little weight required for balancing, One or two of these required no weight at all. Overall these are in my opinion good tires at good prices. Wear reports are exceptional, Forty or more thousand miles expected. A 155-70-13 Delivered to your door $64.50 Take a look at these and see what you think. I have been running one of these Summit Tires on one of my PS250 Big Ruckus's, The tire has twelve thousand on it and may be worn a Thirty Second of an inch, I feel sure it will last another Thirty thousand miles. These tires are rounded more on the shoulders than most other car tires and do feel better leaning than those squared off tires. Carshoez will sell one tire at a time. Happy motoring lloyd 193.

Loyd193,
Not able to find that tire on eBay. You have a link?

I believe scooter tires are still rated/marked MC and use rims on motorcycle pattern.

Modernman 1953, I looked this morning on E bay For the Mini cooper 145-70-12 Summit Radial T Rated tires and they are no longer Listed, I still have two of these in stock. Still listed are the 165-65-13 T rated car Tires that fit the rear on the Silver wing. There are other brands of Chinese car tires available on E bay. If I caused any confusion on this subject, Please accept my apology. Happy motoring lloyd 193.

John Grinzel, John many of the guys here in central Florida are running car tires on the rear of their Bikes, No problems have cropped up other than the Bikes becoming a little Squirrely in the rear at interstate speeds, Indicated 80-90 MPH. No tires have rolled off rims or Blown out because a car tire was mounted on a bike rim. These car tires are prone to cause a wobble at high speed, Mainly because of their flat tread, Running with these guys, It is apparent that the rear of their bikes do have a tendency to move round more than the bikes with a motorcycle tire profile. I have Mounted Hundreds of tires, Both Motorcycle and car tires on motorcycle rims over the years, I have lots of experience with this subject. If you wish to use a car tire on a bike rim go ahead, Just be aware that at hi Speed you could wobble and car tires feel different when they lean. I use car tires on some of my bikes, I do not use car tires on bikes that I run a Hundred MPH on. When Ever you replace a tire always replace the Valve stem Assembly, When the valve stem fails it is an instant blow out and things rapidly become very interesting. Happy motoring lloyd 193.

Who wants a bike/scooter moving around at high speed? Better to use SilverWing as it was designed and use Honda approved tires....in the case of last SilverWings, IRC.

I have had some luck with rear Michelin Power Pure SC----they last about 10,000 miles and wear ROUND! My riding life, 62 years I have used up about 450 tires----including car tire on special rim, MZ sidecar outfit---rear lasted long time---bike unride-able solo and against the law in Germany!

What a brilliant discussion, so much excitement, so little logic, it's even better than oil or belts.
But it can't beat the old "bike wobbles /falls over if I let go of the bar" thing for sheer frustrating, hilarity. At least not without joining an Aventure Bike thread... 😆

How could we forget lloyd193 he was such a fine contributor of great opinions and facts?
I'd stick with MC tires no problems there.

Decorum on the Forum

I have no strong opinion about the darkside but I do have a strong opinion about the behavior of some posters.  I was trying for days to think of something wise to say when I saw in a post by bandito2 far more than I would have ever been able to express.  It was the following:  "Thank goodness for the pioneers, the curious, experimenters, those unsatisfied with the status quo, dreamers and the bold to be willing to take and manage risk in order to forge progress for the betterment of all."

Mm. I wonder how many of the pioneers et al have died in the pursuit of progress.
The whole business of so-called Darkside tyres as, has been said, been done to death without resolution and has caused great upset.
The expression, 'Horses for Courses' came into my mind. I'm content to let the experts in tyre-technology (in this case) guide my footsteps (or tyre tracks).

I propose closing this thread; I won't do it without consent. Wink

Looking at your avatar you could have sought inspiration from old style English comedian and film star Norman Wisdom, or the Mancunian alternative rock band Happy Mondays.

Site Admin MikeO proposes closing this thread.

All of the concensus that can be gained from this has been gained and that is equal to Zero.

Close it and move it to the darkside forum where it belongs.

The Darkside Tire discussion topic is not readily accessible. I finally found the topic which was hidden in Honda Silverwing :: Accessories & Modifications:: Darkside Car Tire and moved this discussion to that sub-forum.

This topic has been locked.
