PostSubject: Oil Plug Sheared Off   Sun Feb 19, 2012 7:20 pm

Bought a 2005 SW and was doing an oil change today. The oil plug was so tight that when I removed it the threaded part sheared off. The threads are still inside the housing. Any ideas on how to get it out would be helpful. Thanks, Chris

Were you able to get the spring and screen filter out?

Yes, just the thread is still inside. Not much of it, but it needs to come out. The thread that is still inside is about an 1/8 of an inch

Try putting on a heavy leather work glove and use your gloved finger to unscrew the broken piece of thread. There is nothing holding it in.

Try taking a sharp chisel and LIGHTLY tapping it counterclockwise against the threads with a nylon hammer or rubber mallet. It should loosen easily. Then do the Dennis thing with the gloves.
