| Hi I've had my silverwing for 6 months and it's been working fine up until the last few weeks, my battery does not hold charge anymore. The first week of the issue I charged it and it lasted a week, since that charge in now needs charging every other day.
Is this just a case of buying a new battery or could it possibly be something else not working correctly?
The bike is a 2003... Not sure how old he battery is.
Many thanks |

| Check the battery volts when it's running about 4000 rpm (while it is up on the center stand). If your charging system is working properly you should read approximately 14 volts. If you are only reading approx 12 volts then your charging system is at fault. If you are reading that 14 volts then your battery needs replacing.

| By this time a 2003 S/W would have had several battery replacements. As previously stated check the voltage. If any doubt take the battery to a bike shop and have a brake down test done. It has to have a given amps capacity to hold a charge. Howard |

| Ok I've just tested the battery. Not running = 12.5 volts Running at 4000 rpm = 12.7 volts
This obv isn't enough to keep it charged, anyone got any ideas as to what the issue might be?
Many thanks |

| The obvious would be the charging system, the alternator stator is on the right hand side of the engine AND a heck of a lot easier to get to than say my old GL 1200. have you gone over all your grounds and electrical connections associated with the charging system? Checked the alternator connector for corrosion ect? |

| You have to have the battery(keep it simple)tested. The capacity of battery is measured in amps and must be tested with a load device. The amps is what gives the power. Yes you have to have 14.? volts charging the battery but this has nothing to do with ability of the battery to hold a charge. Howard |
