Hi all,

Just a quick 'thank you' to all those who have shared their experiences and maintenance tips with replacing variators and bets - you gave me all the info & gotchas that aren't in the workshop manual and I was able to easily do the work yesterday. The only tricky part was loosening the variator bolt, but I used my big fat torque wrench (set to 200Nm) as a large enough lever, while my variator holder was braced against the main stand so I could hold it in place with my foot while I used both hands to loosen the bolt.

Thanks again cheers

Coops,

Glad everything worked out. Have you had a chance to go for a ride with the new J Costa? I had it once and they sure do provide good acceleration and a bit smoother too. Congrats.

I did about 50 miles today, a good mix of twisty lanes and A roads. It is unbelieveably smoother (but maybe the original variator wasn't quite aligned?) and I'm getting around 5500 rpm at indicated 72 which seems ok.

I had the variator light come on during some hard acceleration - probably nothing but I'll take the cover off in a day or two and just check that everything is bedding down smoothly. I've reset it for now and I'll see if I can recreate the same conditions tomorrow.
