I found this reference to a product we may find useful; users claim good results but do your homework.
Deoxit by CAIG Electronics, plastics safe. Buy it online or at an electronics store.

I use WD40 on switches and electric connectors ;doesn't harm plastics,paint and electric contacts.

me, too. WD-40, never switch trouble in over 75 new bikes....I also treat the switches in a kind way.
