Not Wearing a Helmet

An Off-Duty Cop had a pretty bad accident while riding his own personal M/C the other day on the I-10 Freeway here in Phoenix. He may have prevented some of his serious injuries, if he would have been wearing a helmet. But you are not required to wear a helmet here in Arizona. You will get a ticket for not wearing a seat belt while driving your vehicle. But you are more than welcome to splatter your brains on the highway here, by not wearing a helmet. Ride Safe...Robert.

Motorcycle insurance in Canada is mandatory. Not having it and getting caught you are chained and beaten in the town square as a public example of what not to do!

In Florida you don't need insurance to ride a motorcycle. If you are over 21 and want to ride without a helmet you need to have $10,000 minimum personal protection insurance. I think that is way to low as $10,000 probably wouldn't cover the emergency room. I have never heard of anyone that was asked to show proof of insurance or been fined for not having it. Although I don't have to wear a helmet I choose to wear one and would feel naked without one.

Whether required or not I can't imagine not having liability and property damage insurance on a vehicle. Being sued into penury would be a distinct possibility, and not one I'd like to experience.

In New Brunswick, Canada you have to have insurance on motorised vehicles meant for public roads, except for the death trap electric scooters that are appearing on our roads here. They have no power to get out of the way, and their riders seem oblivious. I hope the authorities don't wait for the first fatality before they clamp down on them.
There is also a rule that any serious motorised two-wheel violation entails a long-term ban, and possibly lifetime loss of riding privileges. That includes riding without a license or insurance, and riding under the influence.

To many laws and rules for our own good I think. Worse in Canada than the states!

I never wore a helmet until I was hit twice by cars running a red light. Forgot what was I going to say???
