| Had a breakfast run today. 140mile round trip. 3 s/wings and a burgman. All from different directions met at cafe in Wales today, had good food, good chat. Only down side was the cold. Body ok got some good clothing. Just finger tips, have never found yet something that keeps the cold completely from the finger tips. Hheated grips would be nice but quite expensive. And one who had just fitted some still had cold fingers. |

| Sounds good! My hand-guards really do the business as far as reducing wind-chill is concerned. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!

| What hand guards do you have? Any pic's? And where from. Heated grips are nearly £100..which is quite expensive. |

| I'll dig out a picture or two. They were from Cruiser Customizing in the States but they are available elsewhere, too. Somewhere I've got what they're really for - I'll search! _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!

| This is what I posted on another forum in June - I have since fitted a Givi AirFlow screen but it hasn't affected the turning-of-the-handlebars any differently: When I bought my Silverwing I also bought a set of Givi Handlebar muffs, having had muffs on my X9 and found them ideal for me. The trouble is that the Givi ones are universal unlike the ones for the X9 which are bike-specific.
As a result, at anything over 50MPH, the muffs press on the brake levers enough to activate the brake-lights. No amount of rearranging made any difference.
Therefore, I looked around for something else and with the aid of ideas from all over, ordered a pair of National Cycle Hand Deflectors from Custom Cruising.
I've been waiting for ages ( I won't bore you with the difficulties I've had with CC) but they arrived this morning. As there are none specifically for the Silverwing and I'd read that Part Number N5501 were the ones to get, I did. In fact they are for the Yamaha with cable clutch and 10mm mirror stem.
This means the two metal arms on the brackets are different lengths.
The RH one is right for the Silverwing, the LH one too long. Fortunately, apart from that they are identical (mirror image) so all I had to do after careful marking* was to drill a new 10mm hole, cut off a couple of inches and file the cut end into a curve to match the other bracket.
* I did this by clamping the two brackets back-to-back with a G-clamp and marking with a pencil. To find the centre of the hole I used a 10mm drill-bit through the correct hole, just to make a small 'dent' then drilled a small pilot hole using that centre.
Fitting was easy although I've inserted the lock-washers in the wrong place - I'll see if I need to move them.
Turning the handle-bars completely to the Left is fine; doing the same to the Right causes the deflector to just push the edge of the screen before getting to full lock. I can't see that being a problem.
I shall need to touch up the cut surfaces - I have Hammerite in the shed - but will leave that for now.
I'm probably going out on the bike tomorrow so I shall see what's what and report back.
Incidentally, I have Honda's own mirror-extenders and the stock screen. The hand-guard brackets fit under the extenders where they bolt on to the bars. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!

| Scooterbob on this site wrote the following on the allsuperscooters.com site: http://allsuperscooters.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=74 Here is a link to the parts scooterbob used: http://www.directlineparts.com/product.asp?pid=1445&str=2
I don't know if these are different from the ones Mike has, as the part number is the same. Does seem to work well with the stock screen. Mike, did the AF214 affect the experience? |

| That's the thread in which I posted the above. Dale, the guards do nudge the screen on full-lock, the left a bit more than the right, but it only happens if one is manoeuvring the bike by hand and hasn't proved in the least bit problematical. With the steering lock on, the guard isn't touching the screen. I do stress that the ones I bought need only one bracket shortening and a new hole drilled in it. I've just remembered; I've reversed the outer nut and bolt on either side so the domed nut doesn't hit the screen. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!
