Observation on UK roads

For the past month or so I've been using a friends car - it's a new model with all kinds of fancy computer stuff - to drive around the roads of Essex, Kent and Hertfordshire. No special journeys, just driving about generally doing my routine activities. Anyway this morning I flicked through all the various readouts in the car and one that struck me was my average speed over the 1232.7 miles I've driven - just 23 mph!

Bear in mind I've driven the M25 a few times and been caught in the usual hold ups but that still seems really low???

my renault megane has a similar and over the month the avge speed rarely goes above 33 and i live in scotland, rarely go into cities

Even on a long cross country run it's hard to best 50mph what with coffee stops etc. So if a few bits of town milage is included it doesnt surprise me.
