tires - Tires for SW Empty
PostSubject: Tires for SW   tires - Tires for SW I_icon_minitimeWed Sep 16, 2015 4:56 pm

Hi There
I am new to the site.

I bought a used 2005 SW back in 2010 with only 379 miles on it, I got a good deal from a friend whose wife didn't want to ride it. I have since put on 7,800 miles on it mostly back and forth to work.

I need to get a new rear tire any suggestions on brands? Right now it has a Bridgestone tire on it.

let me know what you think

thanks Ed

Not to hijack your Introduction, but Pirelli Diablo's are a good tire as are Michelin City Grips. Motorcycle Super Store frequently has decent sales and/or free shipping. There are several other on-line sources for tires too.

You could also check with your local Honda Dealer. While their prices may be higher they may also mount and balance them free.

All of the above presumes that you will be taking the wheels off at your garage and bringing them to the dealer. Be prepared for a big dent in your budget if you ride the scoot into the shop and have them do all the work.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum edwing.

Tim

Welcome to the forum! I also recommend the Pirelli Diablos. They have reduced road noise on my SW compared to he Michelins and provide good traction. Maybe they won't last as long but I can accept that.
After reading Cosmic_Jumper's comments I found it very odd that it is cheaper in Australia to have the Honda dealer to remove wheel, supply, fit and balance than to buy the tire only from the cheapest source on the internet. Normally we pay between 50-100% more for accessories and parts compared to US. E.g: Firstgear Mesh Tex jacket in Oz = Aus $ 575= US $ 400 compared to the US $ 179 that you guys pay.

Look on decal....for what Honda recommends for the bike.....probably what is best, after all bike was tested and developed with or the tire was designed around bike. My 2013 came with IRC----which worked well. Michelin Power Pure on it right now, but I feel bike felt better with the OEM IRC.

welcome Ed welcome to the best Silverwing forum on the web. It would've been best if you would have asked about tires in a separate post here, Maintenance, Tips and Hints in fact if you look through that section of the site you will find more than you will need about tires. Your scooter probably came with Bridgestone Hoops, I agree with Tim the Pirelli Diablo's are a good tire and grip the road well even in the rain. I've probably used Bridgestone Hoops and IRC more than anything else only because they are the ones Honda recommends which means that is what my local Honda dealer usually has in stock. I have used the Pirelli Diablo's and I liked them a lot. Right now I'm using a Kenda on the rear, it was $63 and available on the same day I found a nail in my rear tire. I had 13,000 miles on it so I didn't mind having to replace it.
I add the paragraph below for most new members because there's a lot of information in the links and may save you some money and work. You'll find you can do anything you need or want with the service manual and help from this forum.
Here are some links(3 below in blue)that will help you learn a lot about your Silverwing. If you can't find what you need in the links below the search on this forum works good, and if you still need help just ask and someone will do what they can to answer your questions.

Hi Ed and welcome to the best SWing site on the net. I also have Pirelli Diablos on my 08 SWing. This is the second season with them and I like them. I haven't had any problems with them and will probably use them in the future.

Welcome Ed! You can do a search on here and find TONS of info regarding tires!

I use OEM IRC's myself. Not the best handling but they wear like iron... And I buy them and have them installed at my dealer too. Cheaper than most other places too.
