2015 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride - Chicago

Only 12 more days until the DGR! I've been hard at work figuring how to put my CE armor into my Harris Tweed jacket for the ride. We're riding from Cobra Lounge on Ashland Ave. to Motorworks on South Western Ave and then to Lake Shore Drive. On LSD we go south to the Museum of Science and Industry. We regroup then go north to LSD and Hollywood. From there, I'll prolly turn around, take LSD and hop on Cermak to Archer to Cicero south and then SWHiway home. I'm guessing total of between 75 - 100 miles. A little less than 1/2 a tank of gas.

I was at the 2014 IBA RTE at the Palace Grill in Chicago when the legendary "longhaulpaul" Pelland arrived, having ridden the 1000+ miles from New Hampshire, on a 350cc Piaggio while wearing a blue tuxedo. While he rode the entire distance wearing the tux he did the ride wearing his full face helmet. However he "arrived" wearing a matching blue top hat (a la` Dumb & Dumber). Sheesh, talk about a Distinguished Genital's Ride...

Getting dressed for the DGR. Over 400 riders registered as of Friday. Discovered that my Harris Tweed sports coat is just a wee tight through the shoulders, but not tight through the gut. Thanks to weightlifting regimen and many thousands of crunches!

Great ride on a somewhat sketchy, cloudy morning. I think I was the only SWing, although there were a few Vespas out. Had to be well over 400 riders, seemed like more. A real kick riding through downtown Chicago and down Lake Shore Drive. This ride is a keeper!

Surprised that they let you ride a SW, though.  They're really picky about the types of bikes they allow--they even have a "style guide" of permitted bike types.

From the DGR FAQ:

"DGR is simply about the niches within the motorcycle world. It is not an event for our friends on cruisers, sports bikes, motards, modern plastic scooters [ ], dirt bikes,  adventure bikes, tourers and Can-Ams."

I rode last year on the Slash 5.  Missed it this year, though.

If you watch the vid, you will see that not only is it Distinguished Gents but Distinguished gals as well. There were even guys in kilts and tuxes. There were DGR's all around the world!

It works when I email the link to myself. Go figure!

The only way to make the link work is when you get the "Unable" screen, tap the "v" in the upper left corner, and you should be right there.

Don't know what's the problem. Link is correct, and it starts to open correctly, but the "unable to find video" screen pops up
