PostSubject: Intermittent Light Issue   Intermittent Light Issue I_icon_minitimeTue Jan 21, 2014 4:25 pm

I am having an issue lately where sometimes my headlights don't come on when I start the bike. Any time this has happened, if I turn the bike off and then restart it the lights will come on. Most of the time I only have to restart it once, but there has been a time or two where I have had to restart it a couple of times.

Thanks for your help

If you can narrow down the circumstances it might help in identifying the problem.

Does the headlight initially come ON when the key is turned ON but before the starter is activated?

If the headlight is OFF after the engine is started will it then come back ON if the key is switched OFF and then back ON again?

Will the headlight come back ON if the Kill Switch is activated to stop the engine but the key remains ON?

First thing I would do is clean the start button. If that is dirty you can have that problem.

I will keep an eye on that very carefully. There's snow on the roads right now so it will probably be a day or two before I get a chance to ride it again. I might go out tomorrow and see what happens when I turn it on though.

I've got some contact cleaner, would it be ok to spray some into the gap around the starter button? Should I disco the battery first? One other thing that I've thought to try would be to pull the plugs on the lights and clean those contacts and apply some dielectric grease to make sure there isn't some mild corrosion causing the issue.
