Am getting a slight shudder when starting out. Is this possibly a belt issue. Have almost 19,000 miles and checked the belt at 14,000 with no visible problem.

Strip it down, clean the dust out (in particular the clutch) and threat it to a new belt.

Check the rollers too they may not be sliding easily, more dust...

Canhead,in your introduction you said your Swing was a 2003. If this is the same bike and the belt has never been replaced, it is probably overdue. It's your choice, but being wrong could be very costly.

canhead, how did you stop the shudder last year? Did you ever get it to run smove then? I would do like RArch said as old as the scooter is I sure would not have much faith in rubber that old if you have never changed it.

simple temp. fix.=
run engine up against brake for 5-10 seconds---repeat if still shudders. Bike is old/belt is old/belt beyond service limit-miles.

Replace belt with OEM, probably rollers, too. The shudder is just way rubber band drive scooters are----I have had 4 Helix, Reflex/SilverWing/2 Burgman 400.

Here what happened to me. Every time I took off, my bike was making a shaking weird noise. So I took it to the mechanic. Next thing I know they call to tell me that they changed the belt ( one week old belt) and it should be ok now. NOPE !

Took a while but I found out by myself what the problem was. Make that the  PARKING BRAKE ....sticking !!!!! I just took the pads off and ....tadaaa ! no more noises, no more vibrating.
Good luck !

Real man don't need no parking brake elephant Smile

I was so pissed with the whole dealer / shmiler, I never put them back on the bike. I managed quite well.

I haven't had any problem with the second bike. I am waiting for the first belt to pop at any moment. I am over 27,000 miles on the first belt. On my previous bike it broke at 23,000.

I assume you never park your scooter on a downhill gradient, manual geared bikes can be left in gear, scooters can't.

Cheers,

I got so used to not using the parking brake with my old Silverwing that I still turn the bike so the rear tire rests on the curb / face up hill or just put it on the stand. I drive my bike for a living. I do a lot of stops. I use at 1-3 tanks of gas per day...every day.

That is some mileage you are doing. Are you thinking of doing an Iron Butt run for a bit of recreation?Laughing

I never use the parking brake myself but you are really tempting fate running the belts so far
beyond Honda's mileage recommended change interval.
