New E470 top case installed Empty
PostSubject: New E470 top case installed   New E470 top case installed I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 26, 2013 12:59 pm

I Installed the hardware to the S'Wing last night. The job was very straightforward and only took a little over an hour start to finish. This morning I installed the E470 backrest, which mounts to the lid of the case with two bolts. Again, a simple job with the template provided. The instructions call for a pair of 6.5mm dia holes to be drilled in the lid. I rummaged through my workshop, but none of my metric drills were close. I checked my drill chart and saw that a "G" letter drill was very close. I had a couple of those, and it proved to be a perfect size.

Tips:

Tape the template in place.

Use a center punch, or anything round pointy & sharp to dimple the lid at the spots indicated on the template.

Pre-drill the holes with a 1/8" or smaller bit first, then drill to the final size.

Lightly deburr both sides of the holes in the case lid after drilling.

When tightening the bolts, be careful not to deform the soft washers too much. Stop tightening when the bolt is snug and the plastic washer is just starting to deform.

I have small pictures of the mounted top case in my photo album on this forum. If you prefer larger photos, here's a link to my Photobucket album: Gyro's Photobucket
