my left hand handlebar lever and switch is faulty and starting is a pain at times. the rear light switch also no longer works. so i need a complete left lever. i assume the wires can be disconnected at a plug somewhere. based in the uk. many thanks

Check out:

https://www.silverwing600.com/t12554-brake-lights?highlight=rear+brake+switch

I replaced my switch as the brake portion failed but not the starting section. Very easy to replace.

I got mine from partzilla.com Part number 11-35340-KFG-003

Good luck.

I've been using David Silver for years. They've been pretty good.
