Buying Brake Pads Empty
PostSubject: Buying Brake Pads   Buying Brake Pads I_icon_minitimeMon May 01, 2023 12:19 pm

I am planning on pulling the calipers apart and checking them and figured I might as well just change the brake pads at the same time.

But... when I look at the subject here on the forum and also on YouTube I see that the pads in the front have anti-rattle clips? and a white plastic seemingly designed to keep the brakes quieter.
The front calipers have only one plastic and the rear has two.

Now, I cannot find OEM parts online (will have to go to a dealer I guess) so I cannot see what is in their kit when you buy OEM pads, but the aftermarket pads do not seem to have the clip nor the white plastic as part of the kit and I cannot find them separately either.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I have seen comments about stainless brake cylinders as well... any advice on caliper rebuild kits would likewise be appreciated.

I've always inserted the metal anti-rattle shims. As for the plastic inserts I used trial and error.

With the pistons 'all the way back' in the caliper, I used the plastic inserts if they fitted comfortably when sliding in the pads. If not, I left them out. I'm not sure of their purpose, maybe some kind of extra anti-rattle job.

My logic tells me that it provides a bit of extra reach before the pistons become 'exposed' as the pads wear down. Question

Thanks. Did your new pads come with that plastic insert and the metal clip? Did you use OEM pads or aftermarket? I am told by the Honda dealer here that the pads have been discontinued.

OEM seem to be available in the UK. However, other companies provide them, maybe EBC?

I can't remember which came with plastic bits. Actually, I don't think they are 'that' important.

Stainless steel pistons are a worthwhile investment.
