| In the last week I've been poking around for a second bike to buy.
My main ride is a beloved 2019 BMW C 650 GT scooter. It's a perfect bike for me, but the older I get, the more I ride -- especially in winter in Florida when the weather is perfect. I found myself racking up miles at an alarming rate.
I set my sights on a second bike to help with the mileage load. The Burgman 400 seemed appealing. I looked at several and settled on pursuing a white 2009 with 6,000 miles for $2,795. It was a couple hours from my home on a Greyhound line, so I could take a bus there and ride it back on US-1, one of my favorite roads. I began negotiating with the owner via messages.
While waiting for a reply, I took one last look at Facebook Marketplace and noticed a silver 2004 Honda Silver Wing (I've owned five Wings). It looked nice and clean. Couple scratches but I could live with that for only $1,800 and 21,600 miles. Might be worth a visit before i bought the Burgman. Few things more reliable than a Honda and it's a decent backup to the BMW. The only copy in the ad said, "Clean title."
Turns out it was a fire sale by a Brazilian engineer who has to move back to his country in a week. His English was very limited, which explains why his Facebook ad didn't include the mind-boggling list of extras he offered me. To wit:
3 quarts of MOTUL oil K&N oil filter Rubber gaskets for oil drain plug New Honda CVT belt Dr. Pulley 19-gram sliders and insert pieces (19-gram! I could launch myself into next week!) Variator holding tool New Malossi variator New Malossi clutch Malaossi clutch springs Malossi 21 and 24 gram rollers EBC brake pads New Honda stator coil New seat strut
The bike already had a new Malossi muffler, new battery, new GIVI screen and K&N air filter. He installed 22 gram Dr. Pulley sliders so basically it's a Japanese bullet train. This Wing is QUICK. Sounds like a serious, bad boy machine with the Malossi muffler, even has pops and backfires when I cut the throttle fast. Pure fun. Was thinking of offering $1,600 when I arrived but seeing all the extras, I paid him full price.
Just for grins, I googled the retail value of the parts and came up with $1,730. That's before what tax and shipping would cost me. How could I NOT make this deal? I almost got back in parts what I paid for the bike! I may end up selling some of the Malossi gear. I'll learn about it first. Maybe I'll like it.
Good to be back in the fold. My 6th Silver Wing. Reminds me of a rock song when I was coming of age, from Led Zeppelin: "I can't quit you, baby .... " The song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dA5Vfl1bbU

| VERY nice score! That’s super cheap (assuming it was in good condition). |
