Noticed for a long time that when switching from side to main lights on the switchgear that all lights go out briefly before lighting up in the selected mode and wondered if the contacts are about to expire?

Losing headlights at night winter is a serious issue hence the question and wondered if its fixable or needs a new switch? Could be the contacts wearng out after twenty years or slight looseness in the spring if its spring loaded.

We have another 14 weeks of winter and another 120 hrs of riding for me so time for some PM could be nigh......

If you do a search for 'headlight switch - an insight' you'll see that the switch is spring loaded. The problem could be in there, but if it is the switch itself, it's easy to have a look and maybe clean it up.

From time to time my switchgear gets a bit sticky. I use the following, easy to use and works for quite a while. This may not be what you need but helps me. Good luck!

I use the same thing as Glenn only I got mine from O'Reilly Auto Parts store because I was having trouble with the dash light dimmer switch in my pickup. It worked great for that and I'm sure it will work great for the SWing also.

Cleaned the switch and although it still cuts out briefly , it maybe in the design as the one contact switches to the other , from side lights to full so not actually a issue.

In dong this I also noticed the throttle action is a little on the rough side as you wind on no throttle to 20% , almost like the edges of the cables are rubbing on the edge of summit, again not a issue as such just not as smooth as maybe it should be .....oil as made no difference and the throttle looks clean with no dirt anywhere.
