I have a chance to upgrade from my 2002 silver wing to a 2013 silver wing. I’m gaining anti-lock brakes and an O2 sensor. It will be $2000 US out of my pocket. Do you guys think it’s worth it to gain these options. Thx

I would have jumped at that deal when I got my 2007! I would really like to have ABS on my scooter, but I’ve never had a bike with it so I don’t know what I’m missing!

Go for it! The ABS is well worth it. Did not notice any gain in MPG between my 2002 and 2013 Swing with the O2 sensor. The ABS has saved my butt several times mainly due to cagers not seeing me when changing lanes. I always try to stay in their line of sight.

ABS is always good although if your bike is in good condition is there really a need to change? I go with John's wisdom on this you'll still have a 7 year old bike. I would be tempted to look at other newer bikes before making a decision. A modern, lighter 3/400 might fit the bill better. Or it might not

So if you rephrase the question as, would I buy an ABS 2013 Silverwing for $2000? My answer would be, yes, certainly.

Is that $2000 cash to buy the 2013 Silver Wing, or the 2002 Silver Wing traded in and $2000 cash out of your pocket to buy the later model.

Buy it if it's in good condition. Time just wears things out. 19 year old brake lines compared to 7-8 on newer one. ABS and a bit better fuel mileage are worth it.

Yes to the second. The ‘02 has 10k miles and the ‘13 has 4K miles. |

Try and find a 2013 SW for $4K you most likely won't but you did. It's a good price with low miles. OR just buy it and sell old one $2500 yeah it can be a pain to sell tire kickers and low offers.

If the condition is good on the 2013 I would jump at it. If you enjoy your Silver Wing; you would be upgrading to the last year made. Good if you pan on keeping it a while. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Toolman is the 2013 in real nice shape with no accidents ? If so go for it ;sounds like a steal to me with so little mileage.

I'd jump on it too just for the ABS. Having had several bikes with ABS I feel they'd be worth the price all by itself.

ABS would be worth it to me. I bought an 11 model over a 10 model with a bunch of dreamy options because 11 had ABS.

| I had a '52 4hp Cushman slant back scooter. Not much to brag about but I did have fun with it on Edwards AFB where my father was stationed back in '55-58. Crude, only one brake on the rear, no brake lights, pretty crude. I rode it many miles on desert pole line maintenance roads as well as well as going to and from school and delivering newspapers and TV Guides in the afternoons.
I wouldn't take it on any roads today but it was a good introduction to a 14 year old kid. Also learned a lot about keeping a scooter running. That one was pretty sad when I got it for $25 but I learned a lot about maintaining a bike as well as learning to ride on the sandy desert roads.
My Silver Wing is more than a lot better. |
