| Ok guys this is something i have come across, in my honda shop manual it says that the front springs should be fitted with the tight coils to the bottom, recently i have changed the oil in two sets both springs in them were the wrong way round tight wound coils to the top is this a misprint in the manual any input regarding this, must add i have put them back the way they came out one was abs type the other none |

| The 02-13 manual that I have specifies the tight wound coils at the top for the Silverwing. My manual also has all the body panels correctly labelled.
Other bikes have it differently, VTR1000F is down, ST1300 is up, VFR800 is down. From the perspective of springing I doubt it makes any difference, the only aspect might be if the spring has a slight taper which fits better against the damper rod or the upper washer.

| Sounds like your manual is wrong mine shows tightly wound at top. SW spring is not tapered and no damper rod on this basic fork. Lightly wound end down might absorb smaller bumps better.
I doubt anyone could feel any difference either way. It might raise the oil level a little causing a stiffer fork when more compressed. Fork is sealed and air space above oil also can make it stiffer. |

| My manual is the Honda original one part no 62MCT00 i recon its just a misprint in it because the pic on previous page shows spring being removed with the tight wound end at the top |
