Silverwing Drivers Backrest

Do any of you Silverwingers have a back rest from Bestbackrests.com on your SWing?  Was just reading about them on the net.  I did some research on the Utopia backrest, but not real crazy about cutting into my seat.  I also noticed that the Utopia site says the seat may not stay open due to the extra weight of the backrest and you may not be able to put a full face helmet in the storage area due to the bracket for the backrest.  Any input would be much appreciated.

I found the best backrest mod on the forum taking the existing buttrest and making a couple brackets That raised it up 9 inches or so.

It's pretty much the same kit from bestbackrests.com except you measure the holes and drill the brackets at home. With steel bars you get down at home depot for a few dollars plus a pair of extra set of nuts and bolts. Instead of spending over a hundred you get pretty much the same thing. If you really need rider's back rest.....Utopia is the only way to go....sure cutting hole sounds bad, but the thing is adjustable!

downs---limits passenger room, cuts down on luggage space, heavy...paint mixing stick can prop seat up to load stuff.


First determine if you really need back rest, remembering bikes are designed to be ridden with slight forward lean of rider.

2wheelgal, your observations on the Utopia backrest are correct (as are John's).

However, cutting the slot for the upright isn't nearly as traumatic as it sounds - I managed it!

It's a very well constructed piece of kit.

That's a real quality design and fabrication job you did. Nicely done Flyingpanman.

Instead of a skirt across the back, you might want to consider ordering a zippered pouch with straps for the back from the fella who makes the Utopia seatrest. I ordered a separate pouch for my wife's Burgman 400 after I modded her seat (non Utopia). His pouch works great to cover up the "raw" look and she now has extra storage space for sunglasses, mobile phone, suntan lotion etc.
