| Premature belt wear info.
Service manager (via Honda tech support) indicates that the true drive belt tolerance is 26 mm for a new belt (standard). The minimum tolerance (service limit) was quoted as "when the V indicator comes on".
Stated the tolerances given on Page 10-1 of the 2009 Service Manual are incorrect. This Honda tech fellow reportedly rides a Silverwing and should know the right stuff.

| Well... how about that... wonder if there will be a notification to other dealers and us "common folk" one of these days. I would normally say that "everyone makes mistakes now and then" but they pay people good money to guard against such mistakes. |

| Honda are not alone - Piaggio decided that service intervals on certain of the newer engines could be increased from 4000 to 6000 miles but didn't publish it. As a result of posts on the X9 forum, it did become public knowledge. This forum/club undoubtedly performs the same service, thank goodness! Is it possible to have a special place to put information like this? - I'm still not completely familiar with the site so there may be one already. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!

| Premature belt wear -
I wonder if the Honda dealers ever receive technical bulletins or service bulletins from Honda, and then read and understand them? Anyone know?

The answer must be no to one of the above ... the Service Manager had to contact the Honda Tech Support._________________ Bill - Georgetown TX 07 Silver Wing ABS Clearview w/vent, Givi E96/TB19/E52 with Admore Lighting, Alaskan Leather, Wrist Rests, 3M Solas tape, K&N air, Hyperpro spring, Grip Puppies, Airhawk, Utopia backrest, Stebel, Apexcone HIDs, StingerZ LEDs (w/Backoff WigWag), Knight Rider Sequential LED, NGK Iridium, Power Commander III, Manic Salamander, Saeng mirrors, Garmin Zumo 660, Dark-Side Sumitomo Tire |

| So if Honda sez the 'V' Light coming on prematurely indicates the belt needs to be replaced before the 16000 mile interval; what is indicated if you reset the 'V' Light and it doesn't come back on again? If it continues to come back on I agree that there is "an issue" somewhere, but if the light stays off, then I think there probably isn't a problem. The belt slipping, or the rpms rising higher (for a given speed) then 'normal' is what triggers the 'V' Light. Just my 2 cents worth... |
