Arm Rest & GPS Empty
PostSubject: Arm Rest & GPS   Arm Rest & GPS I_icon_minitimeThu Jun 20, 2013 12:30 pm

Hi, I purchased my SilverWing 2010 last year and i LOVE it! I am looking to add a passenger armrest to the bike, I do have Givi Trunk attached to the back, can someone steer me in the right direction to finding one? Also I want to mount a GPS to the bike, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Nobody makes a direct bolt-on passenger armrest for the Silver Wing.  If you are handy, perhaps you could fabricate an adapter plate to utilize one of the ones that mount to big bike sissy bars.

The S'wing world would probably beat a path to your door if you designed a good one. Smile

Search the DennisB forum section for GPS mounting info.  I have a Dennis B GPS mount.

Dennis B. used to make great passenger armrests... I have one of them and they are great!  I believe he quit making them because it took more time to make than the money he made on them.
You MIGHT try to persuade him to re-think this and get back into the armrest business...billc.

I made mine a few years ago that attach directly to the Givi top box mount. there are pictures in my album. The arm rests themselves were from an old office chair. I have about $10.00 in the entire project. My wife loves them since I added a cup holder to the right armrest. Good luck.

Below the picture at the top of this page click on "Albums", then click on "users albums". I'm in the 6th row down, last on the right.

Nice armrests, do they rotate outwardly and lock in place or are they fixed?

They rotate in and out. They do not lock, but the effort required to move them is adjustable via a nylon lock nut at the "hinge".

Installed the RAM motorcycle mounts on both brake brackets and I use a medium RAM aqua box sized for a Garmin unit on either side (when in full touring mode I mount a Sirius receiver on the left side and the Garmin unit on the right side).

@toolboxjesse - how did you route the wiring for your GPS? Do you have pictures?

Strongmaterial type in arm rests in the search box above. My idea of arm rests are the first on the list with a description on fabrication and pictures. I too have the Ram gps mount on the left brake reservoir. I ran the wire under the plastic handlebar cover and found keyed power under the front nacille. I like the location of the gps there as it doesnt hinder the view of the indicator lights like some center mounts do.

@Hotwings - I am not really interested in the arm rest, I am more interested in where you got the 12V keyed power from and where is it located and how did you get to it? Can you please give me more information. I'm also thinking of doing the mount on the left hand side of the handlebar but I need to connect it to power.

Thanks.

Doesn't any body think about safety if you and passenger go down??---Passenger should hold you around waist and put weight in footpegs, ride as a team!,-----Armrests might be another projection that stab/retain you/grab pavement
