Johnd I think you need the Givi 214, read all the other posts(there are many) regarding screens BEFORE you buy. Smile

The one piece Givi screen for the Silver Wing is the 214 DT, there is a specific fitting kit for it called the D214 Kit and it's a separate purchase. Whether you can safely install the screen without using it I don't know. The fitting kit does have metal plates similar to those on the AF 214 Airflow, and the usual badly printed instructions.

I recommend installing the kit.

The force on the adhesion is proportional to the surface of the screen .
( simplified )
So for example a new screen , 30 % more surface..
With a speed, 75 mph, the force is the same as 100 mph with the stock screen.

Maybe you drive not very fast but when you sale the SW, the next owner probably 100 mph.

I have read many reports about the bad instructions on how to install the Givi d 214 windshield kit. How difficult it is to follow.
My windshield will be arriving soon as well as the instillation kit.
What do I look out for and what is the best way to go about instilling the kit? Question

The instructions are poor unless you need to start a fire, but the pictorial and advice on the instalation by others is well done, cheers Yeah JeffR cheers As the old saying goes, "If I can do it, anybody can!". It was easier than I thought. You can do it.

Best advice on fitting any screen has already been stated.

Follow the instruction found on this site by JeffR.

If you follow Givi's pathetic instructions you'll be doomed to rapid hair loss and regular visits to the optician!!!!!

Specific fitting kit for it called the D214 Kit. OK Meldrew. So I missed it by one decimal. Thanks for checking another one of my mistakes, but I am still a lot of fun to party with.
By the way, who gave you the name Mildrew?

What browser are you using??

I would suggest breaking into stages to determine problem.

On Firefox, if you right click over the PDF and click "Save Link As" ... it will then prompt you for a location to copy the PDF to.

After you have copied the PDF to your system, open the PDF file.

If it is still failing ... which step is failing?

I checked the info on Givi website before my first post which if you check was in reply to the post from johnd and not you but thank you anyway. Smile

No one gave me the name Mildrew, it's Meldrew I chose it and it's a British thing. You obviously put a lot more thought into choosing the name John 123.

One bit of windshield installing advice that may not be obvious to some new riders here. Be VERY VERY careful when mounting the screen back. The screws can push out the rubber nuts. The nuts WILL pop through with just a MINUTE about of pressure. And if they do, you will be in for an adventure finding them. So either buy a bag or two extra (at about $3.00/piece) or be careful. I can speak from experience.

The sound you hear here on the forum is the combined voices of many members whispering... "I know what he is talking about".

PostSubject: MY D214 kit   Givi windshield kit I_icon_minitimeSun Dec 04, 2011 7:05 pm

I am still not getting the correct response here for the first time.
What I asked was, How do you install a D214 kit, ( for the Givi windshield) what exactly are the problems and how do I make a hard job simple? the easy way?

Give a lazy man a hard mans job, and he will always find an easier way to get it done! Ha Ha.
Guess what? Even though I work some times 9 to 13 days straight, I still look for an easier way to get my job done quickly.
I am so relieved that your name is not. Mildred. :lol!:

I've just noticed that you john123 and johnd are probably the same, both 63 years old from Santa Barbara California, and registered here around about the same time.

Which one of you has problems with his screen, and which one just wants to chat me up online? It's Meldrew not Mildred, or even Mildew. Neutral

John, if you look at the posts carefully, you have had your question answered. Putting a windshield on is not a really technical thing to do. The 214 kit is just a part of that process. And you WILL NEED the kit installed for structural support of the new screen. Take the old screen off and put a new one on. The kit installation is shown in the following pictorial.
https://www.silverwing600.com/t46p30-givi-windshield-installation-pictorial?highlight=installing+windshield

All makes sense when you see it. It doesn't get any simpler. Look at the pictorials and make sure you are careful and I mean really careful putting the screws back in for the new screen. Those little rubber nut puppies do pop through very easily. That is the only problem I had going from stock to Givi screen.

I didn't install the kit which I assume is the metal piece that is included to add support. I know you have to drill to install it but I have never installed the kit for any Givi. I know...this may start a war...but as that one song by a singer named "Chapman" said...I'll take my chances.

+1 I never used those metal plates either. Took the chance and 7,000 miles later... no problem.

Ok and thank you.
I received the windshield today and I must say, I got the deal of the year. It is in perfect condition. I guess I will have to wait and receive the kit and decide wither or not to install it. Time is running short.

Happy to help as far as the .pdf file in concerned.

With regard to the fitting kit - Ask yourself the question "Why did the Honda engineers come up with a fixing kit?" Simple operation to fit.

I did not think Honda made the Givi windshield. Is that true?
Right now I am caught in between using and not using the D214 kit.
I need a little coaxing here people. Sleep
I am putting off the installation of my new Give windshield untill I get my new quick connection from Dennis, so that when my new TrueFLEX®️ Professional Grade Flexible LED Lighting Strips arrive for Christmas, for my rear view mirrors, the whole project will come together correctly.

I think asking whether to install the kit or not is probably like asking what is the best oil. If you feel nervous about something coming loose or shaking you should install it. But quite a few of us haven't and...so far so good.

Send some pics of it when you are all done and maybe one with a "before" too. I'm curious.

Hi "john123",
I usually don't delve into folk's spelling habits (since mine aren't exactly perfect) but yours was rather humorous, ie, "OH boy, Santa knows I've been a goon boy this year". I'm assuming you meant ["good" boy] as opposed to "goon". Smile Ya' just never know sometimes; been kinda goonie myself a few times this past year.

As for those metal "kit" pieces for the Givi, it is said they are suppose to be added support for the windscreen because of its flexing properties. Have always kept an eye and mine and have never seen even the beginning of any structual defects (stress cracks, etc.); nor have I heard of anyone else (who didn't use them) writing anything to the contrary. I'm not really a "speedster" but I do a fair amount of 75 and 80 mph interstate miles in my travels when I do go out, so if something was going to happen it should have been loooooong ago.

So, as JeffR indicates in so many words... let your conscience be your guide and you'll live happily ever after.

I also will be removing the front topper where and repairing some broken tabs, using information from this great site.
