| I have a stock 05 SW which is only about a month old. I do not have much time on it yet. I would like hear from some experiences guys on what order to do mods. There are many threads with great mods but where to start, are they needed for my riding style, etc. I know this is a little subjective but maybe we can get a list for us new guys. Thanks in advance. | Clearview or Givi Windscreen,*, back rest or raised butt stop and Dr Pulley variator sliders or light weight variator rollers --usually done when you change the belt. A whole lot of folks add a Givi or other brand Top Box before doing anything else. And if you expect to do some night riding and want to add extra lighting you might want to consider our own DennisB's driving lamp bracket as well as his Perfect Connector wire harness connectors (so you won't have to mutilate your wiring). Then if you really want to go to extremes you can replace the short-lived stock rear tire with a Sumitomo car tire and get 40,000 miles wear from that. You could also replace the stock clutch with a Dr Pulley High Thrust clutch. *<Edit> Oops! How could I have forgotten? ...HyperPro springs --but first change the windscreen Tim

| A good start would be to bin the stock windshield and fit the Givi Airflow, you'll enjoy riding your SW so much more, then a Givi rack and E52/E55 topcase to increase the storage capacity. Maybe later, lower leg wind deflectors, heated grips' and a Dennis B sat nav mount. That's what I have on my SW and it covers all my needs.
I'm not sure about all this J Costa, Dr Pulley, Hyperpro, Power Commander stuff, I've never fitted it to any maxi scooter and have never felt the need to, US tastes may be different of course.

| Hyperpro front spring replacement is also very high on the to do list for most modders. Huge improvent in how the bike handles the road. Replacing the trunk light with the fixture that has the integrated switch is also an easy and cheap mod.
I'd recommend that rather than putting mods in order, put your priorities in order.
In particular put the following in the order that is most valuable to you:
Comfort (Backrest/buttstop and screen) Performance/Handling (Variator, exhaust, power commander, hyperpro,) Utility (Top box, lighting in the trunk, power outlet in left glove box) Safety (Lighting front and rear, mirror extenders) Long Trips (Better tires, GPS, Cruise control)
These are just examples. Once you've got your priorities straight, you'll know exactly where to spend your money.

I would agree with the order you listed. I will mostly use it for daily commuting and running errands. Although, long trips are not expected, comfort is by far the number one priority. I have been reading the Corbin v. Russell v. Airhawk solutions. I just started riding with my feet forward instead of flat which has made a huge difference. It looks like the unanimous winner for first mod is the windscreen. Shocks actually are very popular but my question is do they make a difference in the ride comfort. I read a lot about performance but my sport bike days are behind me. Do they soften the bump? |

| They definitely soften the bump. Very good with potholes. Reduces nose dive considerably.

| My list, in order of benefit to me, is:
1) J. Costa variator (gets rid of all drive train vibrations and adds considerable acceleration) 2) Givi AirFlow windscreen (eliminates all sorts of high speed buffeting and noise) 3) HyperPro springs (no more brake dive, more secure cornering) 4) Mirror extensions (for safety, can't be beat) 5) Admore mini light bar and top box LED lighting (for safety, can't be beat) 6) Kisan headlight modulator (for safety, can't be beat) 7) Givi V46 top box (more than doubles your storage capacity) 8 ) Grip Puppies (makes the hand/grip interaction so much nicer) 9) DC powerpoint (for powering up my GPS or cell phone) 11) GPS mirror extension mount (brings the GPS nice and close for easy reading and manipulating) 11) Throttle lock (very handy when riding on the highway for right wrist rest) 12) NOJ fork guards (prolongs fork seal life) 13) Some kind of battery tender (I use a CTEK) to keep the battery charged during winter layup

How long did it take you to get used to it? It just never seemed very natural to me.
I also have a throttle lock which I use regularly on the highway if the traffic is light and there aren't too many twisties. |

| Givi screen. stock is god-awful Beg and plead with the Ohlins rep to make forks for a silverwing. Get Hyperpro instead. Beg and plead with the Michelin rep at the track to make dual compound tires in the right sizes. Buy Pirellis instead. Acc socket in left box,15 minutes, immediately followed by garmin GPS. Hookers. Divy out garbage bag of Mexican pot into more manageable sizes, and offer to previous reps to no avail. Eat. Sleep. |

| I would say in order:
1) Larger Windshield 2) Top Case (if you need extra storage, if not then this goes down the list) 3) Hyperpro front springs 4) Airhawk for longer rides 5) Larger grips for the longer rides.
I used to have a J. Costa but I have the 28gr Dr pulley sliders. They aren't needed but do seem to smooth it out even more. Even though the SWing is very comfortable and smooth. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. You know you're in bad shape when your hookers require a 12 volt power source.
I think Tagg was smoking something the reps refused when he posted... Either that or he just got satisfied by a 12 volt hooker.
Hmmm...I wonder....Is it just a coincidence, that a standard 12 volt power recepticle appears to be just large enough to accomodate an average size flacid penis?

Don't forget that you have a pin for side-mounting your helmet under the left side of the driver's seat - it's where I store my 2X HJC full-face. :-)

I first used a Crampbuster about 4 years ago on my Transalp, I never really appreciated how good they were until a series of long trips in 2008 onwards. In 2009, I did a 2.5k trip around France and was totally converted!
However, when the bends start swingin' the 'buster gets rotated out of the way. I am not sure quite how the different riding style on the 'wing will affect the Crampbuster though |

| What mods? Easy. Ride the bejesus out of the machine. Identify what really annoys you a lot. ( Meaning what really pisses you off.)Then look for the mod that can alleviate your woes. As Mr Meercat would say over here in dear old Blighty - Simples!!!!! |

Good advice Waspie, I am not planning on going crazy with upgrades. Just curious what others are doing first. I just ordered the Givi windscreen because the wind buffeting is really pissing me off! I'm 6'2" and dont think the stock screen does anything but direct the wind at my face. Hope this helps. Thanks again for all the responses. David |
