PostSubject: Updated ... the colors of '02 '03 '04 (repaint of an 03)   Mon Mar 01, 2010 6:16 pm

It seems like most of the Silverwings have vastly diffrerent colors from year to year, but if my information is correct the 2002-2004 were all red or some shade of red...Is that correct?

2002 is called "candy wineberry red"
2003 is called "candy glory red"
and
2004 is "candy raspberry red"

First off, is that correct?
And secondly, are they actually the same exact color?
I've found (ebay) a new 02 leftover front body piece that I could use and the picture looks just like the same color as my 03.
And if it is a different red, then why go to all the trouble if its so dang close?

Any input or side by side pics?

Heres one of my 03 parts..actually, I have a new one of these coming..cheap IMO
But the front fairing isnt so cheap, but not bad enough to get a new one either.

( pic to come)

EDIT

Looks like the 02 and 04 are much darker burgundy than my 03.
I guess I'm SOL on the 02 part matching...it must be the flash on their picture that makes it look so bright:

2002 part

my 2003:

sure looks close

And a pic of an 2002..supposedly:

You have the color names right. The 04 is a very dark "red", almost tending into a brown shade, not like the 02 or 03 at all. The 02 is the beautiful wineberry red that I'm partial to, and the 03 is, as the name says, a bright candy red, not alike at all to my eyes. So all three are distinctly different, and the panels, in their original colors, won't be interchangeable colorwise.

2002 The color was more of a maroon color and they had black
2003 The color was more red

Go here and click on the years. It has all the colors from 04 on.

The color they show on that link for the 04 isn't even close to the actual color. The actual color is much darker. 04 also came in silver.

I also have an 03 that could use that front fairing and kept coming back to that same listing. The picture is indeed very deceptive - I looked up the part number and found it was for an 02, but even knowing that I still wanted to bid on it...

I too checked the part # on one website but it didnt come back as valid.

Of course after getting off the wallet.....and bidding, Babbits (I think) it was able to decode it as an 02 that had a #change..thats when I started to worry.
Oh well, If I win the bid I'll find a use for it somehow.

I'm not one to welch

Update.

I did win the e bay auction for the front fairing piece, and it came with no drama.
I took it to my paint guy this week with the paint codes and even an old part of the correct color.

They were having a hard time finding the right formula to match the 03 "candy glory red" but painted it anyway, said "it turned out a little dark"..Hmmmmm.

So I pick em up Saturday and it looks just about the same as it was when I dropped it off!

New painted part on the left, old part on the right.

So after looking at my options, I really like the new color, so I've re-taken all the rest of the plastic back off and I'm gonna have them paint the rest of it all the new "not quite wineberry, not quite glory red".

New part installed:

I also had them paint the drive covers. I found a cheapie on ebay so I'd have an extra to try out.

It also is the new "wineglory red"

With a flash:

With out a flash:

This way I can get a few of the scratches fixed too.
