| Hello all... I'm a new member with a silver Silverwing and really happy with my Maxi Scooter experience. I live in Derbyshire and often visit Matlock bath etc. I wondering if there are any likeminded maxi scooter owners in the area who like to get together for rides out.? |

| Hi Sarnie............Welcome to the forum from another UK member up here in chilly Northumberland. I've been down to Matlock Bath a few times. I know there's a lot of bikers meet up there on Sundays. Enjoy your SWing and if you need to know anything just ask. There's lots of clever people on here so you're sure to get an answer. Enjoy the ride. Den |

| Hi Sarnie and welcome, where about in Derbyshire do you come from, I live the other side of the Erwash in Kirkby and I would like a ride out to Matlock or a bit of a ride around the Dales. |

| Yes, welcome Sarnie. I've too had some good rides around Derbyshire based around Matlock. I've camped in the field at the back of a pub there (by a church whose clock chimes go all through the night). My riding around there has mainly been with the Cub90 group but I have also done some solo and visited the National Tramway museum in Crich which is just up the road. Lovely place - you're lucky. I live in South Essex so it's a bit of a trek but is doable for a days ride or short camping trip. Enjoy your riding. |

| Hello mate, I can't say I'm a fan of Matlock Bath, been through there a couple of times over the years when it was crawling with bikers and never had the slightest inclination to stop. That's me though, I went to Squires in Sherburn-in-Elmet a few times before I moved to York, now I wouldn't waste the fuel riding there. Ditto the Square at Helmsley, and the rest of the North Yorkshire biker hang outs.
When I lived in Cumbria I rode past Devil's Bridge far more times than I stopped there, in fact all of these regular biker stops, breakfast stops, and greasy spoon cafés just show a lack of imagination for riding destinations by the vast majority weekend riders. |

| Where's the lack of imagination in having a meet in Matlock Bath, a cup of coffee, bag of chips and a bit of a chinwag and a possible ride out somewhere into Derbyshire. A lot of people are just weekend riders for whatever reason not everybody's not long distance tourers so what's the harm in having a ride out every now and again just because the op referred to Matlock doesn't mean its a compulsory starting point. I to have been to Matlock more times than I care to remember from being about 15 years old and only living about 15 miles away but I think a social meet and ride can't be a bad thing. |

| Of course it's lack of imagination, the last time I was in Matlock Bath was on a Sunday and it was just wall to wall parked up bikes cluttering up the place. Put your best riding gear on, meet up with your mates then act like twats by blasting past everything on the road in front of you because you hate being separated. This ride to somewhere else in Derbyshire will be to where exactly? Little known gems like over the Snake Pass, Buxton, Ashbourne? Then park up with the same bikers who also were hanging round in Matlock earlier. At least at Devil's Bridge in Cumbria the hordes are confined to cluttering up an area just outside Kirby Lonsdale which is a very nice place to visit in it's own right. The alternative further north in Cumbria is the Hartside Café, and a good scenic ride from Penrith on the A686. What's up there when you get there, pretty much the same as anywhere else, only it's Geordie riders wandering around with one-piece leathers unzipped and tied round their waist. That's their big day ride out from Newcastle, the alternatives being Kielder, and Whitley Bay. Westgate Road "Hill" isn't what it used to be either. I was nearly forgetting the Tan Hill Inn way up in the back of beyond in the Pennines, famous for old Ted Moult's Everest double glazing ads to those of a certain age and not much else, bikers think they have to go up there too. As I said earlier it shows a complete lack of imagination going to the vast majority of well known bikers haunts. It's the same with eating, the inevitable greasy burgers, chips, fry ups, and mugs of tea in stained mugs that seem to be mandatory at all these places. The icing on the cake of course is the inevitable stupid questions you're asked at these places if you're there on a maxi scooter. Usually by some overweight idiot breathing roll ups and fried onions all over you who thinks he's better than you because he's ridden there with his mates on his shagged out sports bike, and he's all of 20 miles from home.
