Yosemite NOT!

Well our trip is complete!  It was planned to be a revisit for me and visit for the other two of Yosemite but due to the fire a large portion of the Park was not accessible.  Fortunately, I had alternate sites in mind so we were OK!  I left Wickenburg, AZ and rode to Yucaipa, CA and met my son (KLR650).







The above are pictures taken at the tomb of Hi Jolly in Quartzsite, AZ. Hi Jolly was the man that ran the camels for the US Army in the desert around Arizona in the mid 1800's!

The rest of the ride was uneventful and was a 272 mile day!

Day two:  my son Chris and I headed up to Independence, CA to our hotel. After checking in we headed up to Onion Valley in the mountains above Independence!

Back to the hotel and the end of Day two!

Day three:

Chris and I headed to Lone Pine to do some sightseeing!  We went to Manzanar (a Japanese internment camp in WW2) then down to the Alabama Hills where many movies were filmed over the years.  Mostly westerns but was used as Afghanistan in Iron Man (2008) and as Nevada in the all-time favorite, Tremors!















After Alabama Hills we headed up to Whitney Portal!  I believe the highest elevation was about 8600 feet!  Then we went back down to Lone Pine and toured the Film Museum.












We got back to the hotel and found our friend Bob had finally arrived on his Gold Wing!!!

End Day three.

On Monday the three of us headed up Highway 395 to our next hotel in Mammoth Lakes, CA! Our plan was to check-in and then head out to Bodie, CA. Bodie is a well preserved ghost town and is very picturesque and well taken care of... The road is great...up to a point! The last three miles are DIRT; and uphill. Easy, yes for the KLR but the Silver Wing and the Gold Wing well not quite so easy! We made it but it was hairy. One NOTE, we saw NO Harley's in Bodie probably for that reason, a couple of dual-sports but Bob and I were the only street bikes up there.




















A scenic trip but after this we headed back to the hotel in Mammoth Lakes.

End of day!

Tuesday morning we packed up and hit another of our alternate destinations; Devil's Postpile!  This is allegedly the largest basalt formation in the US.  We left early and were in for a brisk ride as we started at 7000 feet so and went up to 9000 feet in spots; brrr.  Very pretty though!













The last two pictures are of springs bubbling up out of the ground!  Not exactly HOT springs but warmer than the surrounding waters.  Pretty cool in any event!!!

After this we headed to Ridgecrest, CA and spent the night then headed to Laughlin, NV for a couple cheap nights of R and R!!!

We all parted company on Friday and the other two headed to Southern California while I headed back to Wickenburg!

Nine miles from Wickenburg, I reached this milestone:




My trip was 1521 miles and the Silver Wing ran flawlessly as usual, the high elevations had little or no effect on any of our bikes and it made for cool riding at times.

None of us had any mechanical problems and we had a great time! Now to rest up and plan the NEXT ride!!!!!

Glenn, here's a pic of the GW I just sold. I've got a great angst right now being without a bike.

Hey! I posted notice a month ago and invited anyone who wanted to tag along to let me know!!! LOL

 

I am only 65 still love my job and the money but am just about ready just say, "I'm out of here" just so that I can jump at opportunities like that. :lol!:
