Here is a simple poll to see who has experienced problems with the top section of the AF214, and what measures they have taken to prevent losing the top section.

This is my first attempt at creating a poll so it may not work!

You can buy the top part if you lose or break it, but if you need just the bottom part you are out of luck. I guess that is how they keep someone from buying the bottom for all your bikes and swapping the top to whichever one you are riding. Question Question

It would seem a good idea to make a stop of some sort on the top slider so that it couldn't accidently be pushed up and off accidently as I almost did on my previous SW. Luckily it came off in my hand and I was able to pull off the road while hanging on to it. Even a small nylon cord attached to the top part and tied to the lower part, perhaps through a small hole at the bottom would prevent the top from being pushed up and off.

Been there, done that, lost 2 top sections, fitted the M.A.R.S., the Meldrew Airflow Retension System to top section number 3, which I removed last year and have had no more problems since.

I've read no further posts of members losing top sections at speed so it's hardly a problem that needs addressed. I remember after posting about modding my screen a couple of members wanting to know what I'd done because they were concerned about their top sections flying off riding on Interstates. I didn't tell them simply because they didn't have the experience of losing one, and still haven't as far as I'm aware.

For me with 2 Givi adjustable shields on the 2 new SilverWings I bought and another 2 on my 2 Burgman 400's-----the simple fix is....from the start,, take the top part off, lube (WD40 works) clasp, and keep it lubed in use, then make sure the clasp is fully "bottomed" each time shield is moved or taken off. I have some 50-70,000 miles experience with the Givi adjustable....and no problems.

And on stops I make sure clasp is bottomed, now and then.

Tip: easy cleaning of top----take it off/out. Pledge works for me----the cheaper version from WalMart seems to work best.

It's hardly experience John, the Airflow is simply the recommended option of Silver Wing owners dissatisfied with that awful OE screen and in that way your experience is no different from anyone else.

The exception to that would be the experience of JeffR with his helpful installation pictorial that guided us all through fitting the Airflow when we first bought it.
