| I understand how you feel tinman. I've been riding for 52yrs and never made any claim on my bike insurance. In England Insurance is compulsary. The chioce is 1 Third party only( if you injure, or are responsible for an accident) they are covered. 2 Third party fire and theft, this includes someone stealing your machine or it accidentaley catching fire. 3 Comprehensive ( this used to cover everything) but, it's not as comprehensive as you might think. I personally have TPF(2), it covers me for the Silverwing and my Burgman 400 which i ride all year round, i paid £95 last year as i have maximum no claims discount of 75%. |

| Don't complain Tinman! I pay $795.24 year. I've been riding bikes for 26 years with a clean driving record! My previous "regular" motorcycle was $1200 a year! |

| Sore subject. I made 1 claim and I lose all my no claims and the premiums go up 65%. They are so despicable, the industry and the folk who control it. |

| I must admit to feeling a little bit fortunate (or lucky) as far as insurance goes. I've got a 6-wheel policy with Carol Nash, to cover the Wing and my car, (1.8 TDCI Ford Focus) fully comprehensive - £251p.a. Got me and SWMBO as named drivers for the car, breakdown and European cover for both vehicles, £50 and £150 excess car and scoot respectively. I'm happy enough with that, seems reasonable to me. (And it went down £11 when I moved to my new address!)
I do think though that some companies in the insurance business are close to legalised robbers, looking at their rates! |

| Hotwings, at $795. You must have full coverage on your Swing. I don't believe in in paying for full coverage on all of my vehicles, you never get the value of the scooter . If I get to much damage on my scooter in a accident like loosing control going into the rhubarb . I will go and buy a good use Swing , and keep the other for parts. Getting insurance involved would only happen if It involved another vehicle. |

| Wow! I just set up my new policy with Geico for my new (to me) 2002 S'wing and paid $100 for a year of full coverage with $50 deductible and roadside assistance included. It's as if they just pull a price out of their hats and some get lucky, some don't. |

| Does Geico cover you for 1 million $ or is it less? |

Just a little bit less than that. Okay, for the liability part, I have the state minimum, which is still probably more damage than me and the S'Wing could cause, and I don't have anything to sue for. Million dollar policy? Do you have people trying to get into accidents with you? |

| As far as I no 1 million $ is what is the minimum, I will look into it and see if there is a lower coverage cost. |

| As an example to varying premiums. One of my cars present premium is just over £300 (call it $500 in toy money), another insurance company (who specialise in insurance for the over 50s) wanted £1550 ($2500). This is Rip-Off Britain by the way where insurance is compulsory (can't get Road Fund Licence (we call it Car Tax) without it.)

| I understand the commisserating over what each of us pay, but...
Insurance is, or rather the cost of insurance is based on many variables including (but not limited to) the age of vehicle, the age of the driver, locations (federal, state, town, zipcode), regulations (federal, state, town, zipcode), credit rating, gender, type of vehicle, size of vehicle, number of interactions with the legal system, number of claims made over a given time, occupation, affiliations with preferred groups, # of policies with given agent, corporate pricing/policies and profit motive. I'm sure there are more variables than what I've listed.
I point this out so that no one will think they can merely compare what they pay to what some one else pays and that's the end of it. The only way get the lowest price for YOU is to shop around and compare agencies. |

| Of course you really save money if you have the means to declare yourself "self-insured." What it takes varies by state. Sometimes, you merely have to be able to show that you have the money to cover the state-mandated liability. Here in Colorado, you also have to own at least 25 vehicles. Another good reason to win the lottery. |

| Just for the risk factor of living in the northern boonies, the insurance companies would be well paid with monopole money . :lol!: |

| Being an old fart, my insurance for my wing is fairly reasonable. I'm sure it would change rather drastically if I ever had to make a claim

| $360 per year for the Shadow, full coverage including $2k coverage for farkles included (Geico, Progressive wanted $900 per year). $45 per year on registration, (TX allows you to pay for 3 years if you want) and $20 or so per year for inspection. |

| Oh goody! Now Geico is offering me a "Storage Plan" special where they will knock 70% off the liability portion of my bill for the winter months if I don't ride during that time. That would be great if (a) I didn't ride during the winter, (b) my liability was more than $25 anyway, and (c) if I wasn't already at the state $100 minimum insurance premium. I guess it would be a good deal for someone with a newer, more valuable bike and/or was a greater risk, due to either the bike itself or the rider's circumstances. For some of us in the States, it might be worth looking at. |
