Hammy

Best wishes on your National Park Tour.

If you're concerned about rear tire life with the Hoops, give some consideration to going to a Darkside tire.

I'm running a Sumitomo HTR T4 165/70R13. I've got ~10,000 miles on the tire, and haven't had any problem with it at all. Not only that, but it doesn't show any wear at all.

The tire is especially appropriate if you are doing a lot of cruising / touring --as opposed to aggressive riding. That said, IIRC I was using the Sumitomo when I rode the Dragon last year. So it's not like riding twisties is asking for trouble.

Again, IIRC I paid $40 - $50 for the tire (delivered in two days) from Tire Rack.

Just my two cents worth.

Hi Tim,

Now that you have had the Sumitomo tire on the rear for a while, do you find that the Speedometer shows a more correct speed?

Hi Dennis,

The speedo is dead-on accurate according to all the "Your Speed is XX" radar indicators I passed during my recent ~2800 mile trip to The Iron Range Scooter Rally in northern Minnesota.

However, the odo is off (short) by about 5.5%, i.e. an indicated 100 miles is actually 105.5 miles.

I'm not running a GPS; your odo error may vary.

I may order the Garmin Zumo 660 in the next day or so ... then I can measure my darkside tire.

Garmin has a $100.00 rebate ( http://garmin.blogs.com/files/zumo_rebate.pdf ) that expires around July 4th and the prices have been the lowest.

+1 on the Sumitomo tire! Over 18,000 miles and counting. I think the S'Wing's odo shows higher mileage than actual, so the Sumitomo may over compensate a bit, not really a bad thing. Hammy's NPT Icon_smile
