I just picked up a new 2013 Silverwing. I'd like to add a 12 V cigarette lighter port in the left-hand glove box where I see they've added a knockout, but I'm unsure about the best aftermarket kit and wiring. Any tips?

Make sure that the cord is at least 6' long ore you will have difficulty getting to the batterie. I don't recommend cutting into the power supply line as it can cause trouble in the long run . A good time to install Oxford heater grips as it is the same work involved  , also if you want to install a sound system.

There is a post by TomK on this forum "12 volt power install without removing tupperware". It explains how to step-by-step. I also removed the left passenger foot peg (two bolts) to make threading the wiring easier. Lots of great information on this forum. Check out Accessories and Modifications.

Why not do it simplier? I bought plug in from parts store, mounted under seat directly hooked to battery with in line fuse---filed slot in "basket" for wire to pass thru. Rarely use, but works fine with my Aerostich heated bib---bike electric system seems to handle all day rides with bib on=no dead battery=system can balance load.

I agree with John. I also did that. Mine mounts up front where the seat meets storage compartment. It has a USB and cigarette lighter ports. I wired it directly to my fused power panel. You can charge your phone and/or tablet under the seat as you drive. My first Swing I installed a power outlet in the left compartment. The only thing I used it for was to charge my phone. Being that it is the locking compartment I stored a lot of stuff in there. Using the under seat storage made more sense to me.

I installed a socket in the left side box on my second SW. I used a 15A radial fuse holder at the battery and ran the wires without removing any plastic other than the left rear cover by using a piece of welding wire (could just as well use a coat hanger wire) to fish the wire through to the front of the fairing to where I could get hold of the wire through the hole where the left box was. It was handy for me to have the outlet in the box so I could leave my GPS or iPhone locked up while charging.

I installed my socket at the same time I installed my givi airflow. I had to remove the front fairing to look for the rubber grommets that fell off so I went ahead and installed the 12v socket.
I used a blade fuse so I only need spare blade fuses. The fuse is under the left passenger foot peg with enough slack so I can replace the fuse without removing the foot peg.

I Installed a Battery tender plug to my battery under the seat, When my Battery is NOT plugged in I can use Battery tenders Power port, plugged into the Battery tender Port for charging the battery, so that I have power under the seat too.

Its a very easy switch from charging the battery, just unplug battery charger cord, and plug in Power port, as a the battery tender is wired directly to the battery and is fused, a relay is all that I installed.

That way I have a power port at the left glove box, and under the seat.
