Brand new to the site and to the Silverwing.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dennis and I live in Jacksonville Florida. I just picked up a 2006, mint condition Silverwing 600 with only 767 miles. Not a typo, 767 mikes. I joined this site to basically find out what "must have" upgrades that people think I should do to my new scoot. Also would love some windshield advice as well. It seems the air gets pushed off the screen and directly onto the forehead section of my helmet. Not only do I get a very loud buffeting sound, it's also very loud to have that wind hit you in the head. The gentleman I purchased from said the oil change was done before he bought it at 250 miles. Do you think I should bring it in for it's first service? Anyway, I'm glad to be part of this awesome community and I hope to receive some awesome advice from some of the Swing veterans here or anyone that has great advice. Also, if you know of any scooter clubs here in Jacksonville,Fl, I would love to hear about it and possibly go on rides with people. The best changes I made to my 2003 Silver Wing was to replace the original windshield with a GIVI...awesome; next, added a headlight modulator so that my light was always flashing (except at night) and also added an aftermarket very loud air horn

Welcome to the board, at it's age and such low miles I'd be tempted to just give it a good visual going over, check tires for sidewall cracking / checking, maybe look at the air filter and possibly changing anti freeze.

Change the oil and change the tyres cos after 11 years of doing nothing they will be knackered. Add petrol and ride for a few hundred miles before changing screens etc. You might be fine with it as it is.
After that I might consider changing the final drive oil and drive belt just because of it's age.
If you not mechanically confident get a dealer to give it a good look over and take their advise.

Welcome from Nova Scotia Dennis. As was said by others; check the tires for fine cracks. Shelf life is about 5 or 6 years for that rubber. After buying my Silverwing, a 2005, I notice the state of the tires and locked it up until I replaced the tires. Michelin Power Pure , was my choice; and they are great.

The Silverwing is a fun and capable machine .... its power, to be respected.

I'd also recommend flushing the brake system. Bike brakes don't hold much fluid and brake fluid does accumulate moisture even when sitting. In fact once a brake fluid can is opened it's not advised to keep the left over unless. Moisture in the system will cause corrosion. I'd also change engine oil and coolant. It's a nearly new bike but the fluids can deteriorate over time even in a dry garage. Sounds to me you got a great deal, hope you enjoy it as much as we do ours.

I recommend a Corbin seat and a Givi adjustable windshield.

Both of those will enhance your riding experience.

I love the color of this SW, looks like you got yourself a bargain. The original tyres are by now way too old, even if they still look good. I would get them replaced and would do all the other checks and services myself. So you need a windscreen and you'll be set for the next few years; these Hondas are just so reliable. I am wishing you many years of happy scootering!

Am I the only one who is happy with the standard screen?

Perfectly happy with mine. Tall enough to provide decent wind protection. Small enough to see over easily and leave a little wind flow to cool me down on hot days (most of the year here).

[Also left the stock screens on my PCX150 and Harley Road King. Perhaps I'm just not that particular--or discerning!)

You ought to have the 600 mile valve check done. Welcome to the site.

Congratulations on the new to you ride! Sounds like a great deal. I agree with most of the others, consider all rubber items to be suspect and change them as necessary. New oil and filter. Put some Techron or Sea Foam in fuel and run it out! Battery may need to be replaced. Most of these jobs are easy to do yourself, lots of good pictorials on here to guide you!

As to mods, ride the scoot for a while and see what bothers YOU. Windshield and seat etc. may work fine for you. A few miles will show you problem areas. First thing for me was MIRRORS, saw nothing but my shoulders... That was first item LOL. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the welcome and for the advice. I'm definitely changing the oil and filter even though it was changed and looks good. I just always like to know when it was done so I can change it again at the right intervals. So far it rides great except for the slight vibration on take off but I believe that is normal since it did it on another scooter I owned brand new. I guess the windshield bothers me a little bit because the wind hits me right on the forehead of the helmet and the noise is so loud. I've seen the adjustable windshields that you can add to the top of your existing stock one and was wondering if that is a common add on? Other than that, thanks again for the advice and I will keep on reading through the forum. I've already found quite a few great posts on here!!

You are probably thinking of the Laminar Lip, http://www.laminarlip.com/silverwing.php. While it is effective and at $85+ it is considerably less expensive than the Givi AF214 windscreen, several members here have started out using Laminar Lip but later progressed to the Givi air flow which offer better protection and adjustibility. However with the Givi air flow you've got to check the clamps on a weekly basis to insure that they are holding the top "blade" securely. There have been several reports here and elsewhere of the top blade becoming loose and flying off at high speeds. Still, it's the preferred windscreen of most of our members.

I thought I it was the Givi that I saw. You can either drill and bolt it on or clamp or on. Thanks for the tip though about checking it weekly

Hey there, Dennis. Looks like you snagged a great deal ! At these low kms, you must think about breaking it in gently first and there are guidelines ( I don't know them myself) regarding speed, etc. Other than that I can't think of anything else to add to the info already given.
You are set to enjoy a few years of happy scootering.

Don't you think it's scaremongering saying it's necessary to check the Airflow screen clamps on a weekly basis, I certainly don't and I'm saying this as someone who has in the past had two top screens flying off at around 70 mph. I'd say you're more likely to lose the screen if you raise the screen to a point where the clamps lose out to the force of wind pressure and turbulence on the larger surface area of screen.

Since I fitted the third replacement top screen in the summer of 2012 I've only moved the clamps a couple of times, and that was when I initially fitted my Wunderlich wind deflector. I have a visible marker on my Airflow that will indicate to me any movement. I haven't needed to nip up the bolts on the screen clamps either.

Of course after losing the second top section I was worried about losing the third and rigged up that M.A.R.S. Meldrew Airflow Retension System, more for my own peace of mind than anything as I was leaving for a German tour soon after I fitted it. As I recall now some members were quite peeved because I was reluctant to give out details of what I'd done to those who hadn't had a problem. They hadn't had the disturbing experience of losing a screen fly before reading about mine and it's unlikely it's happened to them since then.
