Just to let you know that on a 111 mile ride yesterday for the American Legion Riders, I lost my buttrest. Nobody saw it as I was riding sweep (last). My SWing had the buttrest to backrest conversion since 2012 and the metal finally fatigued and snapped. Noticed it at the last stop...

It was the upright metal on the conversion that broke not a Honda part but nevertheless I lost my original buttrest.

At this point I am not sure what I will do but fortunately the scoot is still completely drivable! I just thought you all should know so if you use the conversion please check the upright flange of metal!

I'm so tempted to say "what a bummer", but I've lost a few things from my bikes over the years. I guess you'll be able find a replacement, even if it means buying a whole new seat if you have to.

It reminds me of a time while sitting on a wall in town having a cigarette when this BMW R100 comes along. The wall was on the apex of a 90 degree bend as and the bike came around the bend, the lid on one of his side panniers popped open (hinged downwards) and centrifugal force deposited its contents all over the pavement in front of me. I jumped up into road behind him shouting and trying to attract his attention. To no avail. He just rode on and disappreared into town. I took the contents (usual touring accessories) to the local police station in the hope that he might recover them.

I've lost two garage remote control handsets whilst riding. Anyway, at least you know the weak spot of this mod if you decide to redo it.

Actually I am not in mourning over this... I removed the piece that was left and rode the scoot yesterday. It gave me an extra couple of inches for my legs (kinda like the mod I did for my Forza intentionally). With the Airhawk it works fine so no changes immediately. If it bothers me down the road I will just get a new seat or have this one redone custom.

I’ve intentionally removed my buttrest as it pushes me too far forward. What I also did was take off the brackets of the seat (drilled the rivets and took the screws out)- what I’d like to do is get the seat re-upholstered so it covers the holes of the seat where the brackets are- if I can’t, what I may do is put a piece of neoprene insulation over the area and then use a mesh cover over the seats and the padding.

You should have buttressed it.
