| Hello Forum,
I'm considering to buy a red 2002 Silverwing 600 and I'm wondering wether you guys have any comments or tips for me. The scooter has about 20,000 miles on it and looks on the pictures I've got very good. I did not ride it yet - I have to drive more than 100 miles for that. The asking price is $3000.
From 1990 through 2000 I had a Honda Helix (which I still sometimes miss) and two years ago for for a short while a Honda Reflex (which I did not like very much) - I'm not completely new to big scooters.
Is there anything in particular that I should check for on a 2002 Silverwing?
Was this in general a "good" or "not so good" model year?
What do you think about the price?
Thanks a lot for your input! - desertman |

Get VIN and check Honda if Recall done http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/motorcycle_recalls/07/2002/honda/index.html http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/motorcycle_recalls/49/2002/honda/fsc600/74675.html
Check maintenance information.

| desertman,
Welcome,
Bill has presented the same info I was going to post. The decision will ultimately be yours, but I know of no specific problems with any particular year that would be a valid reason to avoid that years model. |

| Thanks for your reply. I've got some more information about the scooter. It's from a second owner who passed away. This guy was a mechanic for 30 years, had a Goldwing before, did all maintenance by himself.
The scooter has a big (Givi?) aftermarket windshield and comes with a complete spare transmission that the previous owner had bought from a wrecked Silverwing "just in case".
I'll get the VIN number later today. Can I check then wether any of the recalls were done? How would I do that?
Regarding the 20,000 miles - I guess that's not a problem at all, right? Or do I have to expect bigger repairs at that mileage coming up soon?
Greetings - desertman |

| ... talked to Honda and know now that I can just call them with the VIN in order to find out about the recalls. |

| I have a 2002. No issues at all other than I beat all other Silver Wings off the line. It's a known fact that the '02 model is faster than all other years. IMHO, $3000 seems fair depending on the condition. You will appreciate the Givi windshield. That's a big plus. I'd sell the transmission, you probably will not need to replace it. If the recalls were not done, you can get them done when you have the scooter at no cost. |

| desertman, If it looks and rides good I would go for it. I also wouldn't worry about the mileage at all. I have 23,000 miles on my '07 and it still runs like new. You may need to change the belt but it is easy to check out. Look in the maintenance section of this site and you will see a pictorial on how to replace or check the belt. If you go to this site and then scroll down you will find all of the recalls for the Silver Wing. There are 4 but Honda seems very quick to recall if they think there is a problem. You many want to check it out. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. Costa not installed now), kevlar belt |

| One would think that a mechanic/owner would have taken very good care of his machine., so it sounds like you have found a pretty good deal on what is typically a very reliable machine. So, where is this bike located, I have been looking for a bike for my wife... In the words of Nike: "Just Do It"... |
