| Just stepped up to a 2007 Silver Wing. Found one with 3500 miles on her to replace my Yamaha Majesty that was totaled the end of July. I ride with the St. Petersburg Scooter Club, a serious riding club with over 200 members. http://www.meetup.com/st-petersburg-scooter-club/ I know I will find all the information here I need to make this scoot truly mine. |

Why? Because you wanted to be "mod"? |

| I wandered in there wearing a Grumpy t shirt I'd bought at Disney World, and if I'd wanted to look "mod", I'd have got the plastic out and kitted myself out to look like the biker in the Village People. |

| Mod vs Rocker. Rocker wins every time if you are into HD. I will try and test drive a 2012 HD Switchback or Road King when I'm down in St. Pete next month. Jim's Harley looks like the closest for me. In Canada, the dealers are very reluctant to let you test drive anything unless it's factory ride days. Then for 1 day a year the factory trailers show up loaded with demo bikes to be ridden, if you have an appointment, helmet, and valid motorcycle licence. In the US, apparently the HD dealers beg customers to take dealer demos out for rides anytime they want. |

| Fletcher's HD in Clearwater may be almost as close. Try them as well. Roger knows where both of them are. |

Very good. Maybe Roger and I will go together to drive a couple of good ol' boy hogs. |

Does that refer to you, Roger, or to Alfadave, or both?

| I have bad hips witch keep me from spreading my legs wide enough to ride or even get on most conventional bikes. Dave, hopefully will be able to ride whatever he wants after his surgery and a little rehab. |

So I guess I'm going to ride a Road King by myself? Maybe Meldrew will fly over and hold my hand? Or not! |

| I was going to Toronto and Niagara in September with Mrs M but I had a type of stroke and got hospitalised, and we had to cancel the trip. I'm still waiting for a cheque from my travel insurance, so the next time I fly the Atlantic I'll have to look at the small print. I never did get to try poutine and or unroll the brim of a cup in Tim Hortons! |

I'm sorry to hear that. I assume you've made a full recovery, based on your currently riding your Swing and your copious quantities of sarcasm and wit?
As for poutine, it's very unhealthy and looks like something that came out of a diarrhetic pig's arse. But the French Canadians in our country certainly admire it. I can't believe the "roll up the rim to win" motto from Horton's has swept the globe. I'm not a coffee drinker, and I've been inside a Tim Horton's maybe twice in the past year. Both those occasions were on group rides with our local maxi scooter club. Again, you're not missing anything there either IMHO. But if you like those double/double (whatever the hell that means) or mocha schmocha coffee flavour, then maybe you'd like Horton's. I'll give you a personal report on my impression of the big HD tourers when I check them out next month if you're interested.
Best to you and Mrs. M in the holiday season. Bigbird |

| Thanks Bigbird, I'm more or less back to normal now and have been going into work for a few hours daily for the last month or so. I was very lucky I didn't suffer any speech or mobility problems with my 'event', and only spent a few days in hospital. Having the love and support of Mrs M helped me enormously all through this. I'm driving again and I have been out on the Silver Wing. It was initially a bit weird after weeks of not riding, but after a few miles everything was fine, the only problem was being dazzled by the sun. I had unwisely chosen to wear my new Scorpion flip-front helmet, which I thought I may never use when I was in my hospital bed. The internal sun visor is for want of a better word... crap, and I'll install a Super-Visor before I wear it again. The weather is pretty rubbish here at the moment, and I'll be using the car until another decent day arrives. I hope you get to visit plenty of Harley-Davidson dealers and try a few bikes out. The sensible option is to buy the dealerships t shirt after you hand the bike back, people that don't know you will assume you have a Harley, and they make a great holiday souvenir. Best wishes to you and your family over Christmas and the New Year. Meldrew |

Thanks Meldrew. Great idea on buying a T shirt at the dealer. Then I wouldn't feel like a typical time waster who just wants to go for a free ride on someone else's dime. I know it's part of a salesman's job to have your time wasted, but I do have a conscience.
If you think it was weird not being on your Swing for several weeks, imagine what we have to go through. We winterize our bikes around Halloween and don't get back on until early April. That's over 20 weeks! But it's just like a bicycle. After a couple of km driving, it's like I never had a hiatus. I do plan to buy Mrs. Bigbird another helmet in Florida. She currently has an open face 3/4 helmet with a shield. However, she does suffer from rosacia about one eye and has a predisposition to wind aggravating her rosacia. A modular helmet may be in order. As you know, it is impossible to judge a helmet's wind blocking ability without actually trying it, so I'll get her to ride shotgun on some of my road tests while actually trying on potential new helmets. We'll see how that goes. I'm looking into the Scorpion, Nolan, Bell Revolver, and HJC modulars. More to follow. BB
