PostSubject: Is this normal, or a problem?   Fri Aug 19, 2011 9:01 pm

I just did my own 16,000 maintenance. new belt, installed 26g Sliders, replaced plugs with Iridium.

I had the bike on the center stand, started it up, let it idle for a minute or so. Everything was butter smooth. Idle is a little low like 1100 RPM. I will adjust it tomorrow morning back to 1300 when I change the oil/filter.

The issue I noticed was that the first time I revved the bike on the stand, when I opened the throttle it momentarily dropped out, like no combustion but then it gained revs fine and had no issues. Subsequent revving did not exhibit the same behavior.

I let the bike sit, turned off, for 5 minutes. Turned it back on and it did the same thing. It hesitated then fired fine. I took it for a test ride and never noticed any issues, in fact the sliders made a huge improvement in the smoothness of the acceleration and vibration.

Is this normal and I just have never noticed it before, or is there something that I should check out? I am thinking about running some sea foam at the next fill-up to clean the injectors. It could probably use it one way or the other.

Did you use the correct heat range spark plugs?
What about the gap? You didn't bend the thin centre electrode I hope.

I wouldn’t worry about the bog from idle until after all the maintenance has been completed. Give a check to the plug gap, make sure the feral or adapter for the American plug wires have been removed from the supply end. When you push the boot on to the plug you should feel the threads ride in to the female socket inside the boot. Check out JeffR’s attachment below.

A few years back I had a similar situation with a different bike. The first few rides after winter hibernation it was hesitant to start and ran rich until it had reached operating temperature. No problem or hesitation while under way. When I had time to change the air filter, which is an ordeal with this bike, I found the root of my problem. Damn rodents!

CR8EIX plugs. Pulled the caps off of the electrodes and ensured the gap was correct.

I replaced the air filter just a couple of months ago so I highly doubt that is the issue.

The bike has been running with no problems over the weekend (over 200 miles) so I assume I was just being a bit too cautious.

I will update if I notice anything further.
