PostSubject: front end softness   Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:02 am

I just bought this 04 silverwing with 12,000 mi. My 05 400 bergman did not do this. when I sit down on it the front springs compress an inch or so. Do they need something done?

Replace with Hyperpro Progressive springs.

Front end softness can generally be rectified with a push-up bra.

To answer your question, I believe they need nothing done. What you are describing seems fairly normal for the stock front suspension. You may prefer to replace them with HyperPro springs as many Silver Wing riders on this site have done. Most likely, it will correct the issue you have noticed successfully, but some riders have lamented a somewhat less smooth ride at speed.

You're on your own with bigbird's push-up bra recommendation. His knowledge of motorcycles and things mechanical is superb. He apparently also has firm command of at least one other subject.

Personally, I ride my Silver Wing with the stock suspension. However, I haven't ruled out replacing the front springs with HyperPros.
