| I just hit 16000 miles and my V-belt light came on. I want to order the new belt today ($104 from hondapartsline) and they offer free shipping on orders over $150, so i am curious what else I should order and replace at the same time as the belt change? I have the service manual at home so can't look right now if they call out any parts to be replaced alongside the belt. Should i order the rollers? Anything else you can think of while I have the belt case open?
Thanks Jesse in Atlanta 2003 Silver Wing "Big Red" |

| Hey Toolbox,
A new air filter if you are still running the stock Honda. |

| Honda does make mirror extenders as a factory part. (Actually a total of 4 parts) You could order those for your bike. _________________ I ride on two wheels cause I feel very unsafe on one wheel.Dan in Miami. The king of custom! | Might as well put in the new rollers while you're in there. Why have to open up the whole mess again just for that? That's what I did anyway. Can't remember the price of them, but I don't think it was outrageous. I don't think there's anything else in there that you'd want to replace at 16K miles. Of course, clean everything up while you're there too.

| Oh I found the part numbers for the mirror extenders. Thanks dspevack and matthew. This takes me over the $150 i need. If anybody else can think of anything please post. |

| If you're changing the belt, pull the inner variator sheave, clean the rollers, and check the plastic spacers that hold the rollers. These spacers are a wear item. |

| I'm t 12,000 and my users manual says to change the belt now. When I called to check on the price of the belt I was told it was $190.00 (Honda Dealership). I don't do my own work so there will be labor added on that.

Maybe you should call it the Honda "Stealership". The belt typically sells for around $110 from online Honda dealers. |

| Honda's list price on the belt is around $145.00... I just looked it up.

Are you sure you are looking at a Silverwing users manual? The Reflex had a 12,000 mile belt interval, but the Silverwing is a 16,000 mile interval. My owners manual, my wifes owners manual, and our service manual all specify a 16,000 mile interval for changing the drive belt. |

| I paid the Dealer in Canton, GA $145.00 for a new belt. That was at Cycle Nation of Canton. That dealership sure treated me fairly last month when I needed them.
The Scoot has an idiot light that will come on when it is time to change the belt. And as Dale says it is for 16,000 mile interval. I would wait for the reminder light. You have 4K miles to shop for a better deal on a belt. |

| Man I hate to see people getting ripped off by dealerships. I was considering becoming a mechanic by trade but after i worked for a while as a mechanic I decided to stay in college and become an engineer. You wouldn't believe how much money you can save on practically everything by fixing it yourself. especially with all of the free info available on the web and youtube instructional videos. |

+1.
And let me add that the proper tools and a service manual are your best friends. |

| Agreed, like I always say, a chef needs the proper ingredients, utensils, and a recipe. The same is true with mechanical work- the ingredients are the replacement parts, the utensils are the tools, and the recipe is the service manual. |

| I always remember my wife hitting the roof when just after we were married I paid kings ransom for a 3/4 inch drive T Bar. It still has pride and place in my tool kit, (36 years on,) and has assisted so many folk from removing wheel nuts tightened by tyre fitters to using, (incorrectly,) as a drift to replace bearings.
It was bought to aid the removal of the VW Beetle rear axle bolt, (36mm.)
You cannot beat buying the best you can afford. In the long run it will pay dividends. |

Yeah now I can ride another 4,000 miles.
