| Hello, I “accidentally” connected with the wire two contacts in the first fuse box under the seat – first “empty slot” and “clock backup / turn light” - while ignition was on. Malfunction indicator lamp now blinks 7 times, fan is constantly on and it it had to start Silverwing when engine is cold. 7 Blinks: Loose or poor contact on ECT sensor / Open or short circuit in ECT sensor wire / Faulty ECT sesnsor (Hard to start at low temp) PLEASE HELP !!! Forgot to mention! I changed coolant 2 days before that ...

| I would try a dis-connect on the battery first and let the system reset it self. After a minute I would re-install the battery terminals and give it a try. |

| OK, here goes. If the battery disconnect has no effect for 20 seconds, disconnecting it any longer will do nothing. Let's move on.
It sounds like you have access to the service manual. Do you have access to a digital VOM? If so, start on p. 5-22 and test your ECT sensor, and hopefully you'll only need a new ECT sensor.
If the ECT passes these tests the worst case scenario is a fried ECM. I can't give you any part #'s or prices as I don't know what model and year of Swing you own. The ECT is cheap, under $20, the ECM isn't, almost $600. |

| So what happens if you disconnet the wires at the ETC Sensor and start it?
I know that I'd have to spend a bit of time with a magnifying glass and the wiring diagram to identify which wires were 'shorted' and which components those wires are connected to
PS: There a few ECU's available here. of late, on eBay in the $150+ range. Not that it's going to be all that helpful to you UK folks though.

I agree. If the engine starts and runs the same with the ECT harness connected or not connected, then I would suspect a blown ECM. I'm not sure I'd recommend actually shorting out the ECT harness with a paper clip, as the zero resistance from the ECT circuit may do nasty things to the ECM. BTW, I'm emailing the OP the appropriate scans from the manual for the troubleshooting of an '02 Swing ECT. He has a European '01 Swing, which I assume is the same as our '02. |

| Sorted!!! Took me a while to find 30min to do it! And again “many thanks” to bigbird for the information. It was indeed problem with ECT sensor - £10 from ebay for second hand Honda SP1 ECT sensor and 30 minutes to change it I wonder since I have part form SP1 will it run faster? Just a few practical comments if you come across changing ECT sensor: Remove Seat and seat metal bracket – you will get very easy access to ECT sensor. There is no need to drain coolant if scooter is cold. Just unscrew sensor with tall socket. No coolant will escape. One again, bigbird, you are STAR!!! |

| I'm glad you got it sorted out and it was only the ECT sensor. I'm always happy to try and help all members, including even Meldrew |
