| Hello... My name is Gary and I have an addiction. My addiction is riding. It all started when I was 13, and has continued ever since (now 58). I have satisfied this craving with a variety of Honda Motorcycles through the years (and 1 BMW, changed back to Honda after 1 year), including 6 goldwings starting in 1983, continuing until last week. In 2006, I added a Reflex to the fleet, the first time I have owned more than 1 bike at a time. It was used for local, around town errands and ride to work, and the GL1800 was used for the road trips on the weekend. However, times change. My sweetie came down with MS, so can no longer ride with me. I have also been having problems with my feet, and the pain involved with holding up the Goldwing at a stop dictated a change. I now am the proud owner of a new 2009 Silverwing ABS. I liked the ease of handling of the Reflex, but it gets nervous on the road at speeds above 60. Everything I had read about the SWing (including this forum) says that it is stable and comfortable for extended riding, yet still plenty nimble for around town stuff, which is what I wanted. First Impression is great. I have ridden about 350 miles in the week I have had it so far. Fuel economy is better than expected, first measured tank giving 61.9mpg (interstate and country road mix, 60 to 65 MPH, no wind and few stops), and the second one today coming out at 64mpg (all interstate, no wind, 65MPH (Dealer 70 miles away straight up the interstate)). I'm not into performance upgrades and speed. I'm the one tooling along at or below the speed limit enjoying the scenery and feeding my addiction. So far the only thing I really miss from the GoldWing is the cruise control. I guess I need to whip my wrist back into shape. I've never participated in a forum before, but this one seems very friendly and helpful, so I'm taking the plunge. I'll apologize in advance for any bonehead error I make as I learn to use the tools available. Wait... I'm starting to shake. Time to go feed my addiction. Enjoy the ride! |

| Gary, Welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it. Don't worry about any "bonehead" mistakes or questions since we have already done all of those. I find the SWing a very smooth and comfortable ride too but I have never gotten your mileage. My best is 53 mph. They do make cruise controls for the SWing and there is a guy named Joe Wolfe, in Tenn., that does a great job installing them. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. | Wow! My original post has been on here for less than 1 hour, and already I have more information on some of my questions than I ever dreamed possible. Looks like I made the right choice in joinig this forum! Living in the desert means that I can (and do) ride all year as long as you can deal with the summer heat (108 as I write this). Lots of early morning rides... I was surprised by the gas mileage too. However, I was very careful in refilling the tank, scoot on centerstand and filled to the lower lip of the fuel fill, so I don't think I can get any more consistent than that. Both occasions refilled between 150 and 155 miles. It will be interesting to see if it holds up over the long term. It's possible the high heat helps a little bit, as I noticed that the GoldWing got better mileage on hot days than it did on cool days, all else being equal. Thanks for all of the info on cruise control, throttle locks, etc. I'll look into some of those. Stay cool! |

| Dan, I don't mind the silverwing.org links but it might get "crahar" banned over there. Crahar, If you are a member of the www.silverwing.org site you will probably get banned for posting stuff from that site to this site. I don't care if anyone does but you will get banned like Dan, Dennis, and myself did. GaryL, I have a "Vista Throttle Lock" and it works good if you on a straight level road. But you can use the throttle with the lock on since it just provides friction to keep the throattle in one place but it can be adjusted with no problem. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. | Craig, Sorry, I meant to say (jokingly) " I say you get banned tomorrow at 1:38PM" I was just joking though but if he sees the post I think there is a good chance to get banned there. He told me in a PM that he never comes here but I think he has to come here since he knows what we are posting. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. | Welcome Gary...I to would like to have a cruise control and am thinking of Joe Wolfes installation. He is about 300+ miles from here and would be a nice ride. I belive Dan Spevak (Spelling?) had one installed. Dan how are you doing with that cruise control. Maybe you give us an update on it during the time since installed. Dick |

| The cruise control Joe installed on my bike is no longer made. He happens to have 1 or two left in stock which he will sell you, or maybe you can still arrange to have him install it. Mine works great. After I had it installed, I rode from Kingsport Tenn. to Miami FL. With all the mountains and all the thermal layers as altitude changed, I never had one problem with it. It would always compensate for uphill downhill beautifully. Easy to operate. Dan _________________ I ride on two wheels cause I feel very unsafe on one wheel.Dan in Miami. The king of custom!
