| My 'Wing' has gone in for its 4k service this morning so I will be flightless for a wee while. It's not that the service will take too long, it's simply the town where I live is undergoing a massive road modernization programme due to the up and coming Olympics in 2012. Trying to get about on anything less than 2 wheels is nigh on impossible!!! Fifty minutes to progress some five to six miles is the norm at the moment!!! Then relying upon public transport!!! A nightmare. I only hope it will be ready or I will be able to collect by Saturday. For those contemplating a trip to England - avoid Weymouth!!!!! (About 8 years of planned road work to be completed by July 27 next year!! ) One word - chaos. |

| Got the 'Wing' back very late this afternoon.
Happy again. Didn't cost half as much as I thought either.
At least I don't have to do battle with the transport system again for a while. |

| Whatever it says in the service schedule!!!
Oil change, clean plugs, filters etc. I also had them check out the belt and rollers as I have been squealing like a stuffed pig on acceleration. |

Didn't think a plug cleaning was part of 4k km service. I should check the owner's manual. I do all my own service (except valve shim replacement) and I just do it when I think it's necessary. I use oil and filter change intervals of half what is recommended in the manual. For me, the oil can never be too clean. Do you know what they did to get rid of the belt squeal? Clean the sheaves? Lube the rollers? Something else? I hope I'm not being intrusive with my questions. I'm just curious. |

To be honest, I don't really know nor care about what or why they do/did things. I trust their mechanics, (years of good service). Regards the spark plug clean, don't have an issue with something that is done and not scheduled. I'd be more annoyed if they charged for something and never did it! I have used the garage for years, know the owners personally, the parts manager lives two doors away from me. And nope, don't mind the questions. End of the day I take it to a dealer because I really can't be arsed to service it myself. When you start looking at specialist tools and the expense of collecting said tools I'm happy to pay someone else to cuss and swear at stiff bolts and binding brakes. Life is all about choices. |

| My Honda rep said to get used to the squeal. lol. Especially if you live in a warm area. My belt will squeal if I do a lot of in town starting and stopping. About the only thing that helps is to drop the covers off the drive belt and give it a good blow job if you have an air compressor. Or give the throttle a good twist when taking off from a stop. |

| Doesn't sound right to have a belt squeal. I live in a place that gets well below freezing in winter and up to 110F in the summer and never have heard a sound with the old belt that was in the scooter when I got it or the new one I installed. A belt squealing means that it's slipping on the pulley(s) and that shouldn't happen. If the take up spring is doing it's job there should be plenty of tension on the belt to prevent slipping. If the belt is slipping it's going to wear out much faster than it should. A belt that has worn excessively narrow may prevent the CVT pulleys from getting a good grip to prevent further slippage. That noise is telling you something is seriously wrong and needs correcting. |

| My car has had a squeal for years. Especially in the mornings, waking everyone in the neighborhood up. Always a bit embarrassing. As it warms up, it tends to stop squalling and I forget about it until the next time it happens. I know I really need to get that fixed! |

| I've got a Dodge that squeals most of the time, new belts don't make a difference.Just makes you wonder if it's poor design or something not lined up right. Worked maintenance for most of my life and found on most machines all you had to do was make sure ever thing was aligned and it would take the squeal out. Only problem on the car is that alignment is built in I see no way to adjust anything. Now and then my belts on the Swing squeal but only after stop and go traffic where you can't take off you just crawl, once I get to where I can get a little more aggressive it seems to slowly go away. | I have to say that having now ridden the 'Wing' for 100 miles since service the 'squeal' has gone. So the removal of cover, clean, remove dirt/dust etc. seems to have worked. No squeal on pick up or acceleration, so I'm back to not being embarrassed when I pull away! With belts and the like it seems logical to me that squeals squeaks will occur, I don't see them being dangerous, a cautionary warning that they may need looking at or adjustment maybe. Any way, the good people at Honda are suitably more qualified than I to make those judgements hence my not doing my own servicing. Back to the football!!! |
