Being new to the Wing I am still naive to the noises and such of my new ride.

When pulling away from a standing start I hear a squeal from below me, lasts momentarily but is quite audible.

Any clues?

Should I be concerned?

It is a new Silverwing with 250 miles so I am still in the settling in period.

Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks

Doug

Mine made a bit of squeeling noise but it was the belt. I am not sure what your noise is but since it is new I would bring it back to the dealer.

The squeal is from the clutch glazing that handles the 0-15 MPH.

If you accelerate very quickly for a few times, the clutch glazing may be fixed.

If this does not resolve the clutch deglazing, there you can hold the brake and accelerate for a couple of seconds.

If you do not baby the 0->15 MPH acceleration the clutch glazing rarely occurs.

Doug, just have dealer to look at it. There is only 1 year of warranty available, you might as well use it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will try the more aggressive acceleration from standstill see if that helps. I am slightly more cautious at the moment, (new machine and trying not to be too harsh before the first service.

Miro, we get a two year warranty in the UK!!! Don't know why but not arguing. Smile If the harsher acceleration fails it will be returned for investigation.

Thanks again.

The service guys at my dealership told me not to accelerate too slowly or I would hear that sound. I know he didn't mean burn rubber...LOL but he said don't just crawl at the beginning as you take off. I bought my bike new also this year in March. It has been running like a dream!!! I found my makes the squeal when the temp of the air is hot. I would not always hear the sound. I took it to my dealer at the 4000k maintance and they could not make it do anything so they would not tear it apart to look at it. Warrenty only fixes true problems not so called problems. It comes and goes with mine. I will have to payattention to the speed acceleration. I did notice that it was always at start up and low rpms

I don't think it's unique to Silverwings - my previous maxi did it when I'd been stop-starting in heavy London-style traffic.
It wasn't a problem.
