After todays ride out with SWMBO on the back I'm thinking about upgrading the rear shockers. Between us I expect we hit or exceed the weight limit so the whole plots seems to bounce  a bit!!! Any recommendations? I've had good experience with hagon before but am a bit worried about the preload adjuster been at the top, how do you get to it?

Thanks Cosmic but I've already done the search and seen that. I was really looking for feedback from anyone who has fitted them.

Before you go off buying new rear shocks, somewhere on here there's a post saying the weight limit on the Silver Wing is 366 lbs. That's a combined weight of 26 stone for the rider and passenger the way we in the UK see it. Myself and Mrs M don't exceed that weight limit helmeted, suited and booted. I've haven't noticed any ill effects riding with a passenger, even with the extra added weight of full underseat storage and top box, a full tunnel bag, and loaded Givi soft panniers on touring holidays. But before I ride with a passenger I always increase the tyre pressures and move the settings on the rear shocks to the rider and passenger settings as specified in the rider handbook.

Do you increase the tyre pressures and adjust the shock absorbers before you ride with a passenger? Or just ride with everything set for solo riding.

I dare not ask :-) but I think we will be on the weight limit, shocks on full and rear boot at 36... but it still bounces on the bumpy roads, fine on motorways though... although who wants motorways? And at 10 years old the shocks might be past their best, albeit only 14k miles.

One thing I've seen done and costs very little to do, is to increase the spring preload by shimming the springs at the bottom. Using a 1 1/2" ABS pipe, cut a 3/8" section from one end. Then cut them again into 2 half moon pieces. Prise up the spring and slide them in. Hold them in place with a zip tie. Repeat for the other shock. It helps to have another set of hands to pull up on the springs. Obviously, the thicker the shims, the more preload. I used this method for several thousand miles and it helped somewhat, but I ride solo.

I ended up installing Hagon shocks. Based on my weight of 220#, they came fitted with 12/270 springs. I found them to be too stiff, so I ordered the next lighter springs. Having the good fortune of living 40 miles from Hagon's U.S. west coast distributor, I took the shocks to them in person and they installed the lighter springs and had the shocks back to me in less than a week.

thanks sctr199. how easy is it to adjust the preload? I think the hagon adjuster is at the top so does the bodywork get in the way?

The left adjuster can be accessed with the shock installed, but the right is very difficult or impossible because of the muffler. I set the preload before installing the shocks and has worked well so far.
