A few weeks ago my partner Sammy was coming home late from work on her
S-Wing scooter she stopped at a t junction waiting to pull out left onto a main road, a car coming up behind her decided to go and knocked her and the bike straight through 3 lanes of traffic.
She landed on top of the bike and hurt her shoulder, neck and back. She was pissed off and got up and gave the driver what for, he admitted full liability and gave all details etc. she got back on the scooter with bits of plastic and the top box hanging off and came home.

I took her to hospital and got the insurance to take the bike away. Sam had no broken bones but has been on pain killers ever since, has been having physio, and wouldn't go anywhere near the replacement scooter.

About 3 weeks ago on a realy nice day I coaxed Sammy onto my Silverwing scooter, we went for a VERY sedate bimble out into the country, stopped for something to eat and on the way back she started to relax and enjoy the ride. Less than 2 miles from home as it got dark I joined the A34 from a roundabout and following a white van which swerved braked and carried on I saw a massive pothole, realy it was a join between two sets of Tarmac, it was about 20 feet long at least and was impossible to miss! I aimed for what looked like the smoothest bit but what I hit was deep and big, if I hadn't had the top box on I think Sammy might have bounced off the back. There was one hell of a bang (I was glad that I do lots of jumps etc on my mountain bike) we kept full control and returned home. A very quit voice said "I'm not going on that again!" Rather pissed off I put the scooter away and went to see what I could salvage of Sammy's confidence.

The next day I went to work in a school teaching the whole class to play cornets, I go there one morning a week and as I got there the receptionist told me Ofstead was in! I went and set up the class with warmups supervised by the class teacher and went to get sound system as I went through the doors of one building to the next I was knee deep in infant children and missed seeing the yellow painted inch high ledge by the side of the doors. I tripped and trying to miss the tiny children cartwheeled across the playground landing heavily on the shoulder that I injured several years ago when my first blackbird was written off. I was in agony , but got an ice pack on it and finished my lesson with the Ofstead inspectors watching my every move! The caretaker helped me take my gear out to the car he told me that quite a few people had tripped over it, which was why they had painted it yellow! I went to A&Ewho X-rayed me told me it wasn't broken then sent me to my doctor to sort pain relief. She gave me an assortment of pills and some patches. I was signed off work for 2 weeks told not to drive for one week and not to ride for THREE WEEKS!!!!

I got my Silverwing out yesterday because my shoulder and neck still hurts like hell and I didn't want to have to take the weight of the Blackbird. As I rode down the road it felt strange and bumpy at low speed, so I stopped and checked it out. The back wheel is now elliptical, nearly 2 cm out of true!!! I took it back home cursing. I took the car straight to where the great big pot hole was, it has been partly filled but is still bad, I am going out now to take some pictures and then to check my front wheel!

Where do I go from here, can anybody give me some proper advice, and preferably keep the piss taking to a minimum coz I hurt and am pissed off!

Couldnt you write a country music song about your misfortunes and use the royalties to get the bikes repaired. Just a thought.  Smile

Hi Hornblower sorry about your luck.ive just been on david silver spares they have a original rear wheel with tyre all brand new for £156 not cheap but try and make them pay for it.if it was up to me we would all refuse to pay road tax as they are not providing the service in which we pay millions of pounds into.

Hi Hornblower,

A first class bummer this is. Here in Tucson we should be called the pot hole capital of the world, as the asphalt streets are a disgrace and pot holes abound. Were a person to crash in one and take on the city that person would most likely lose as the city has deeper pockets.

I think the City should be liable.

I got the wheel straightened but still not good. I then borrowed a wheel from w friend and I've just managed to buy a pair with disks and tyres off a bloke in London who spent £300 on having them powdercoated. He put them back together and found the disks were not running true, so sold them on eBay! He never cleared the coating off the disc mounting points!!!
So at last the bike is up and running and the wheels disks tyres and new bearings in the front wheel only cost £51!!!!!

Good news and a great deal on those wheels, any luck with the local council over the pothole?

I hope the guy in London doesn't read your response as he will be well pissed off...
