PostSubject: Recent Trip   Sun Jul 05, 2009 8:02 am

Rode from my house in Johnson City,Tn to Gatlinburg,Tn
two weeks ago.
The ride to Gatlinburg is about 100 miles.
I have a 04 dark red Swing.
The Swing ran great as we traveled the back roads to Gatlinburg.
My son-in-law rode with me. He was riding a Can-Am, Man is that machine fast.

In the afternoon we drove thru the smokey mountains to Clingsmans Dome which
is 6643 feet in elevation. The view is great.
We left the bikes in the parking area at Clingsmans Dome & hiked to the observation tower. I was killed when we got to the tower showing how out of shape I am.

After returing to Gatlinburg we spent the night, then drove to Cades Cove the next day.
Again the ride was great but the ride throught Cades Cove is full of pot holes making
it hard to sight see as I was trying to miss the pot holes, but still manages to see
deer, wild turkeys & one black bear.

Rode home that afternoon.
All in all it was a great trip.

If any members live near Johnson City, Tn please let me know.

Ernie,

Those are some great roads. We were up in and around that area in June and had a great time.

The hike up to Clingmans is a real doozie isn't it? I've driven the Cades Cove route before and don't think it would be a lot of fun on a scooter. Too much stress on the clutch and variator. And, as you observed the pot holes, they are plentiful on that road. But, then again the scenery and the things you might see along that loop are almost worth it. The river road to get back to Cades Cove is a real nice cruise though. Best bet once you get back there is to go out of the park to Townsend then find a nice cut across to get back to Pigeon Forge. I'll guarantee you'll ride some roads that will have you thinking you are going to sneak up on yourself - twisty!
