I just bought a 2002 w/ 19k miles. I have already placed an order for a Givi Airflow windshield. There are some cracks on the plastic, but overall a very clean bike. A little bit of belt squeal on takeoff, but I plan on having my local dealer check everything out anyway. Here's hoping for many trouble-free miles.

Welcome Smile

I find after a lot of slow starts when riding in traffic causes some belt slap/slippage but a few seconds at 3-4k rpm with the back brake on cures the belt squeal and slapping.

Welcome Steve. Enjoy the ride. If you read through the maintenance section, you can understand when the dealer tells you the widget on the thing needs adjustiing and they will do it for a "small" fee.

Welcome Steve and the back brake and rev to eliminate belt squeal is a good tip. Saves a trip to a dealer too! Laughing

I don't do the power-brake procedure.
I just ride on the interstate, that allso cures the noise..
may be the same throttle, just without the brake. (the wind drag may work the same as holding the brakes)
