Does or has anybody lowered their Silver Wing down? I own a 2008 Silver Wing and need to lower it by 1/2 to 1 inch. We spoke with an upholstery shop but they said that if they cut the seat down the leather on the seat wouldn't look the same and professional. An employee at Honda suggested extending the read shock location . . . Currently I have to wear boots with thicker/higher heels.

First scooters are designed to be ridden feet up! Ridden right, only one foot needs to come out---left being best (from good mc practice).

Second become really good at slow speed stuff in parking lot...all done feet up. Look only where you want to go. Practice starting and stopping on hill---clue only rear brake will hold you

Bike will stay upright with little power required. Good upholstery shop could not only remove padding, but also make new cover.

screwing with suspension---will only screw things up----like center stand/side stand have to be cut. Handling?

Take additional riding course---hopefully with teacher who knows what he is doing. Ride everyday and lots of miles.

Chinabell,

Just down the road from you in Universal City. Look around and you should be able to find an upholstery shop that can shave the foam down and do a nice job of recovering the seat.
If it were a motorcycle you could change out the dogbones to lower the height easily.
Extending the rear shock location sounds like a suggestion made by a person who didn't know what he was talking about (Cowboy Honda in Kyle?).

First of all; welcome to the forum. It seems to me that if you are comfortable with just built up boots, then the seat could be shaved to meet your needs. Another member was asking about seats and I searched under seat height and found a listing for www,diymotorcycleseat.com. I only had time to scan it, but it was very informative about the different foams and seating needs. I intend to go back and study it more just for my personal knowledge. It was well written and very informative. I think you are on the right track with shaving the seat and I hope you can find an upholstery shop to help you.

I shaved 1" off the seat and trim the sides also. I did not change the front ,and it keep me from sliding off at low speed lockup. I did it my self and the upolstery is easy to stretch for re stapel.

Set your shocks to #1 or #2. The shock spring will compress more when you sit on it compared to higher settings. This makes the seat closer to the ground. Be sure the Silverwing is on the center stand when you try to adjust it (should be able to adjust without tools). Be sure to wear a glove if the exhaust it hot!

If you are into sporty handling, and like to push it in the curves, this will also make the handling a little mushy. If you just ride it casually, it should be fine.

Otherwise, try gaining a hundred pounds. Should provide the same effect!

YOu only have a 4.5 inch clearance already. I bottomed out on a speed bump already. Lowering the shock mount would make it really bad on speed bumps and pot holes.

Try something different - when you come to a stop slide forward. The seat is narrower and lower towards the front making standing easier if you are at the front. Then slide back when you start moving. Smile

You may also want to talk to Corbin and other seat makers. It's a more expensive solution but maybe they can make the hard part of the seat flat. The standard seat is convex so you might gain an inch. You would lose storage space.
