| With all due respect to Dennis! We discussed his excellent mounting system via email and I decided to try to refit my standard RAM 1" bar mount to the new SilverWing. The dealer pointed out that the holes matched the female holes on the left brake/electronics housing almost exactly, so with a couple of M6 overlength screws, some washers and 10 minutes work I was in business. I think if I had an iPhone hanging out there I'd want it sheltered more, i.e. using Dennis's system but for my casual use and my Garmin Nuvi 265W (just replaced with a Nuvi 40LM today) I'm hoping this is a good solution.... Steve. Happy Holidays to all!

| Thanks for sharing. I had a set up just like that before I bought Dennis's mount. I like Dennis's better since it seems to keep the sun off my gps when I use it. I can also hear it better since it is behind the dash and screen too. _________________ Ride Safe,

| Thanks...I agree with both of you. also, the unit is exposed and outside the windscreen and could be damaged in a squall, so I'd not recommend my setup for anything other than in town navigating where you can grab it and stash it at the next traffic signal, but it did only cost me $1.60. (and trust me, you do need a GPS in metropolitan Miami . I probably will go with a better system after the first of the year myself. Cheers, Steve. |

| I use a ram mount off of the brake handle bolts which is very similar to what you have done. No problem with it. I just did a 5,000 mile ride from Seattle to Mission Texas and back and had no problems with the gps mounted that way on my Goldwing. I have a Garmin 255W and it is not waterproof but it stood up to some pretty nasty weather conditions.
My electric coat, gloves and Frog Toggs kept me dry and warm. I just got back from this trip on the 22rd of December. |
